He's still dealing with the pain, nightmares, and fallout from their hellish spring break, just like they all are, and the last thing he wants is to be a burden. He never expects the answers to all of his questions, or the soothing of all of his fears to come from such an unexpected source, or for that to open him up to the possibility of finally gaining a family.

Steve was a mess. Even Robin could see that with her, as the other would put it, wacky perception skills. Every little noise startled him and made him reach out to grab at Robin’s or Nancy’s hands, arms, shoulder, whatever he could really. And Robin couldn’t blame him. It was instinctual to curl up into Steve’s chest at small sounds, to hear his heartbeat, to know he was alive and standing next to her.

It had been two and a half months since the end of Spring Break.
Eddie had been cleared of all charges, The Byers were back in Hawkins like they’d never left, Vecna was dead and gone, and everything was back to normal; or rather as back to normal as Hawkins could get.
Unfortunately for one Steve Harrington, his new normal seemed to be not only his inability to get a date, but also his newfound proclivity towards staring at Eddie Munson’s mouth while he dramatically narrated during a five hour Hellfire session, or counting the freckles on the bridge of his nose, or memorizing the patterns in his honey coloured eyes.

Summary
Even though Robin insisted that they were platonic with a capital P, Nancy didn’t buy it. Robin and Steve clearly cared about each other, had countless inside jokes and practically spent all their time together. If they weren’t dating then they definitely would be soon. She figured that Robin was downplaying things to not make things uncomfortable with her considering her history with Steve.
Which was nice of Robin to do but it left a bad taste in her mouth that they weren’t upfront about their relationship. She didn’t want them to have to hide for her sake.
Or: 5 times someone thinks Steve and Robin are dating + 1 time someone knows the truth.

When they found the dead body of a cheerleader in their trailer and all of Hawkins started a manhunt for Eddie, Wayne did not have a single doubt in his heart that Eddie was innocent because, at the end of day, Eddie was a good kid, damnit. And then Eddie disappeared over spring break, and when he came back, he was changed. He tried to hide it, sure, the same wicked smile still gracing his face, the same restless energy still filling his eyes and his heart, but Wayne could see it in the quiet moments and the way he was almost never sober anymore, and he realised that his best wasn't good enough anymore and he was losing his nephew.
And then Steve fucking Harrington knocked on the door of their new trailer.

The two figures were folded over each other on the ground, a ring of dark shapes crumpled and curled around them. Webbed, membranous wings fluttered lifelessly in the wind, lifting at odd angles like plastic bags on the interstate.
But Steve could barely see them.
His ears rang, his vision reduced to a greyish tunnel as he recognised the wooly texture of Dustin’s ghillie suit.
No.
Steve’s feet tripped beneath him as he staggered down the hill, moving towards them.
No hero moves, his thoughts washed through his mind in a seasick, rolling fashion. He could already see the dark wash of blood, soaking the ground like ink around them, as he bolted forward.
I said no hero moves.

Steve Harrington, ex-lifeguard and babysitter extraordinaire, happens to be blessed with knowledge of first aid. Eddie is the recipient of this aid, and as he recovers he must learn to live with the fact that he owes his life to a prom-king with a 12 step haircare routine. This would be easier if he didn’t find said prom king so uncomfortably attractive.
And if the world would stop ending for five minutes.

Hotch lets out a sharp exhale that could very much pass as a laugh, shaking his head with something akin to fondness as he shifts in his seat. He ends up closer to the window and Reid follows him, his body edging into Hotch’s space like there’s some sort of magnetic pull between them. He must be really tired.
