“Porn? I can throw a rock in this neighborhood and I’m gonna break the window of a porn store.”
March gestured anxiously, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Healy paused. “Ohhhhh. The nasty stuff. Whips and handcuffs. Girls and animals.”
“Close,” March said, grimacing. He really, really didn’t want to have to explain this. “Think more like…. Disco.”
“Disco?” Healy raised an eyebrow. “What, like the queer music? You think the back room of that store is full of porn for… For disco fans.” He nodded thoughtfully a couple of times. “And you’re an expert about this?”
For a second the whole world went white around the edges and March thought he might pass out. He was too sober for this conversation. What exactly had Healy noticed that morning, how obvious exactly had his full-body reaction to Healy’s hand on his neck been? “I was a happily married man!” March said, and as soon as it came out of his mouth he knew it was wrong. Too fast, too high-pitched, too loud.

He’s staring down at Bigb’s grave – at the improvised headstone, the wilting flowers, the little handful of sand poured on top of it like an offering. He doesn’t look sad, exactly. A bit regretful, maybe. But mostly just confused, as though this wasn’t inevitably what happened when you dropped rocks on people’s head at close range.
As though this wasn’t always where they were heading – a red life, a shallow grave, and no remorse.
“Yes,” says Scar, cold and unkind. He stops a few feet from Grian, and makes no move to come closer. No move to reach out and offer comfort. “You did.”

And Scar, on his knees, smiling, says, Who cares what they have to say? It’s just us here now.
And Grian – a fool, always a fool – listens to him.

Summary
With no reason or warning given, one afternoon by the side of the road, Caleb is torn from their grasp, dragged into a portal beneath his feet and into the waiting arms of something with a cold, predatory smile.
One month later, Trent Ikithon presents a grand plan to the King. The Archmage of Civil Influence has developed a means to create vampiric super soldiers that can end the war at a stroke. Caleb is one of his first successful examples.
The Mighty Nein have tracked their missing friend to Rexxentraum, only to find themselves at a loss when news of this reaches them. The last time they dealt with a magically-inclined vampire was nearly the end of all of them. Killing him was hard enough - now they need to find some way to save Caleb, and put a stop to Trent's plans before he finds himself commanding an army of perfectly obedient monsters.
And Molly knows he might just hold the key to all of this, but it will mean confronting his past for the sake of his love.
Sequel to "Traveling Hearts", though I will try to make this easy to follow on its own.

Summary

Caleb is only just able to get Jester to safety in time. But when the rest of his friends fall victim to their captor's vampiric thrall, that leaves him trapped and alone against the twisted attentions and easy cruelty of a wizard more powerful than he's ever dreamed of being.
Jester struggles to understand her enemies and make a plan of attack. Her friends are counting on her to save them, even if some of them don't know it anymore, and so she is determined to be the light in the darkness for them and all the people of Tanner's Crossing.
With a little bit of magic and a little bit of research and a whole lot of determination as they fight their own battles, Caleb and Jester might just save their friends before they lose themselves in the bargain.
