Summary
His pace quickened when he first saw it - an abandoned tactical vest. It stood out against the snowy expanse like a bloodied nose - something that demanded attention. It called out to him as though this single article of clothing could tell him everything that had gone wrong so, so quickly.
Except it wasn’t just a vest.
He knelt down beside a winter coat that had a sizable tear in the back from where blood had seeped into the innermost fur lining.
An undershirt was next. Two, actually, as he recalled Price’s stubborn insistence that they had to bundle up tight as mummies in order to survive. Layers were key.
So why had Soap taken his off?
Ghost felt trepidation well in the pit of his stomach as he collected article after article of abandoned clothing. Some were significantly more brutalized than others. He might have even missed the lost scarf due to it having snagged itself on a tree branch.

"All marks are unique, Soap,” Ghost’s sigh was crackly in his ear.
“I mean, would ye know if ye met them?” Soap continued, pulling a knife from a holster on the Shadow’s waist.
There was a pause over the comms.
“I’d know. Might take me a few minutes, but I’d know,” Ghost’s voice had dipped to a low rumble and Soap was pretty sure he’d been able to hear his own heart break over the words.

Summary
There was only so much you could do to a dead man, you see, before he became more of a liability than an advantage. In theory, the idea of not killing Ghost— of keeping him alive, taking him back to the base and torturing all the information they could get out of him was a good one. However, in practice, the issue became more complicated.
Or— Ghost is sent home to recover after being victim to cartel torture, and then Soap shows up.

The same concentric circles that are on Bucky’s back. The moment of realisation that of all the people in the world, of all of them, that it’s Bruce - Bruce - who’s destined as Bucky’s soulmate.
He’s stupidly mad about it, because he wants it to be Steve, has always wanted it to be Steve, and now Steve is gone and it’s the scientist with the dumb grin who’s somehow been left in charge of the remaining Avengers. And he knows he shouldn’t be angry, and that Bruce hasn’t done anything wrong, but… he’s Bruce. He’s not really what Bucky had expected.
