While he's playing house, Demelza enjoys the attentions of other men who find her attractive, worthy, and fall over themselves to court her. The suitor pool has some surprises in it as well. While apart, they each realize that they truly do belong together and that you don't realize what you have until it's gone. The fight back to each other is filled with the usual Poldark angst and some much-needed humor.
And Ross sees what's been right in front of him through other men's eyes, but that he's taken for granted for all these years.

Demelza Carne knew Ross Poldark's heart belonged to another when she agreed to marry him. It had been abundantly clear to her. But his first love was married to another. That gave her hope. But she didn't bargain for the corroding effect the slow drip of jealousy, mistrust and suspicion would have on the marriage. Things came to a head on that fateful night when a letter arrived for Ross from Elizabeth, his first love. Ross's reaction to the contents of that letter resulted in a catastrophic fall-out that changed his life. It was only then he understood who owned his heart.
Could a man not love two women at the same time? That was the dilemma for Ross Poldark.
