Pink Diamond bolts upright as though struck by a tuning fork, and the pearl loses her perfect composure for a moment, voice falling to pieces in the air around them. Pink Diamond urges the pearl be quiet, and the pearl obeys. It doesn’t happen again.
If singing won’t do, perhaps a dance; but at the pearl’s first attempt, Pink Diamond waves her down from toe-tip with a frantic flail, and the pearl settles back into nothing. Unmoving, she tries praising Pink Diamond, a short-lived aggrandizement of her brilliance, her luster, and impeccable radiance. Pink Diamond tells her to stop. The pearl stops. All she’s done, it seems, is stop.

Summary
Professionals is a series that follows Peridot and the Crystal Gems B-Team as they try to keep Little Homeworld running while dealing with their personal problems and the rocky Era 3 transition. If you wish that Steven Universe Future were a Peridot spinoff instead of Steven-focused, give it a read.
Peridot is Chief Technician, and is living in a "secret" lair under the greenhouse, balancing her official duties with her sometimes disastrous personal projects and obsessions.
Lapis Lazuli is living with Peridot. She spends most of her time making meep morps or flying, and is slowly recovering from her past trauma.
Bismuth is Chief Builder, and her forge is where everyone likes to go for gossip or advice.
Blue Zircon settled on Earth to help out with the Era 3 reforms. Perpetually busy and stressed, she is now close friends with Peridot, which has not helped her productivity.
Professionals is the primary story. The rest are side stories which use the same headcanons but do not require reading the main story.

Summary
Once upon a time there were four Diamonds who ruled an empire. The most unruly of the four, Pink Diamond, demanded her own world to rule. However, upon discovering the life that existed on earth, the diamond assumed a fake identity and had started a rebellion. After long, lengthy battles between both the crystal gems and homeworld, the war had eventually ended when Pink Diamond faked her own shattering. In their grief and rage however, the three remaining diamonds devastated Earth with an attack that corrupted the remaining gems still on the surface, ending the hard fought war.
Two thousand years later, White Diamond, the supreme ruler of the Gem Empire, had done something both unexpected and thought to be all but impossible. Seeing the gap that Pink's death had caused, White Diamond created an entirely new gem.
