Sixteen years ago, Mila Nero lost her first ship in a raid to "Mad Captain Silvo." Her career recovered, but present day finds her jobless and nearly broke. Stuck, she responds to a shady job ad seeking a pilot to help a struggling father. When the ad turns out to be a ruse from four well-meaning kids who don't trust their temporary guardian, a supposed Jedi-Pirate who's trying to take them to a home she's never heard of, she can't just leave them alone with him. Not that she's given a choice, considering the ship blasts off before she's even given the chance to leave.
