Summary
A protest of the government use of superheroes goes sideways, as they so often do, and when "Flames" goes to catalog the aftermath, he finds "Vines" unconscious but alive in the wake of a bombing.
Vines wakes patched up but in rough shape in the house of a stranger she recognizes by reputation. Worse than her burns and cuts is the knowledge that someone betrayed her so she ended up engaging in a fight with the feds when she's never gone over that line before.
The person who's sheltering her now has murky allegiances, but in a way she relates to all too well.The attraction they feel is perfectly wrong in timing. The question of why Vines is on the run is terribly right as an opportunity. The way plants and fire shouldn't go together is obvious, unless you know what's under the surface of both.

A slightly grittier world where adult supers don't get to keep tidy lines around what's right to do. Primarily a vehicle for a Layla/Warren romance dynamic that's a little less wholesome--sometimes plants (and pseudo-captivity) are intoxicating.

When the press assumes that they are dating when they are spotted together in public while discussing the protest details, they have to go with it, or expose their involvement. Along the way, feelings get exposed that neither of them expected.

Sero hummed thoughtfully. “I don't know Denks, they seem pretty serious this time. I know last night was the only violent protest so far, but normally they'd chicken out of it by now.”

Kim Possible is a girl who has a close relationship with her dad. She respects what he does and is glad that he believes in her, even as he can sometimes embarrass her. On the other hand, she sometimes struggles to explain to him when he does the latter, or how she has grown out of things, not wanting to hurt his feelings. In this story, Kim is proud of her dad's work in assisting the Ukrainians in fighting the invading Russian forces. She believes he is helping fight for "freedom" and even travels to the space center with him. However, when she reads a pamphlet for a group called Middleton Peace Action, given to her by her good friend Monique, and attends their meeting, her beliefs are challenged. She begins to wonder whether her dad is right... she is surprised when he happily celebrates the death of a man he asserts is a war criminal... family fissures begin to form... Can Kim and her dad get along, or will their differing opinions pull them apart? You will have to read to find out!

Elijah Valerro is no kid, despite what the law tries to tell him.
He hasn’t been one since he met his mother, and any fragment of his remaining childhood naivety melted away when the Dynastiques came into power. They took on a role that was too ambitious for a group of fractured people, and the world was forced to pay the price with empty pockets. Elijah had already been struggling to make ends meet, so when he’s offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to work for the richest people in the country, he does the most logical thing.
He refuses.
The Dynastiques’ new laws wanted him to either hide his identity or erase it altogether, but Elijah knew in the back of his mind that a war against them would be a losing battle. Sadly, knowing that wouldn’t stop him from falling face first into one anyway.
Elijah thinks that he may still have some growing up to do, much as he loathes to admit it. -

“Oh!” comes an exclamation from Gil.
“How about this one,” the blond holds up the cover of a magazine. It displays a close up of a handsome brunet with a chiseled jawline and smokey eyes, highlighted by red rhinestones to match the ruby red backdrop. The headline beyond the title of the magazine reads “Hooked”.
“He’s really pretty.”
Jay is quick to snatch up the magazine.
“Who is this guy?” the former thief asks as he begins to flip through the pages. “How'd he even get to be a model?”
The daughter of the Evil Queen plucks the magazine out of her friend’s hands, pointedly giving him a look of disapproval for his careless crumpling of the pages.
Jay holds his hands up in surrender.
Turning her attention to the magazine, Evie’s mouth forms an impressed ‘o’ at the pages she gently moves through. She toys with her heart necklace as she lands on a particularly striking one of the young man in black heeled boots, fishnet stockings, and a red dress with short sleeves off the shoulders.
“I would love for him to model for me.”
