Steve was born into a heavily religious church, that controlling every aspect of their worshippers lives. They were assholes to just about anyone, and the second Steve could get out, he did.
Then, he became Captain America. And went down in the ice.
Now, nearly eighty years later, he's heading back. He's heard they've changed, but seeing is believing.
Their words left a deeper burn on him then he thought. Hearing they've changed- that the world's changed- maybe he can finally finish healing, and heal the burn some more.
