    “Show me, show me.” Rhaenyra demanded, her voice tight with concern. Daemon knelt beside his children, his hands gently touching the ugly purple Aegon’s neck as he assessed the damage.

    Aegon groaned, wincing as he removed his hand from his nose. Blood smeared across his face, causing Rhaenyra to gasp. “Who did this?” she demanded, her voice rising in anger as her gaze swept over the children.

She drew up her legs, the ball resting on her knees as she absentmindedly ran her hands through the water and occasionally spilling it over her shins. The moon was a perfect disc in the lake's reflection, the only sound being the sound of her fellow dosh khaleen bathing.

    Daenerys could feel the hot tears sliding down her face, dripping down onto the orb cuddled against her. She still remembered her sun-and-stars and how he would call her his moon.

    Then something sharp poked her skin, digging in like a blunt nail. Daenerys was drifting enough in her own thoughts she didn't notice at first until the sharpness was joined by another, and another and another, and then she jolted out of her doze as she realized the black and golden orb was an egg. A spider egg to be specific. And it was hatching.
