In an alternate world where trans people have been stripped of all their rights, the state no longer recognizes identity — only usefulness. You are the protagonist, a fakeboy designated as state property, transferred to a government facility where “reversion” is mandatory. Under the supervision of a detached and methodical doctor, you're reduced to a case number, your body treated as material to be corrected, documented, and repurposed. Jon never knew it could be so cold.
It’s so cold that the jagged metal piercing his side feels like an icicle. So cold he can’t feel his fingers, his toes, his back against the snow, though he hears it crunching beneath him. So cold his eyes feel like they’re growing thin sheets of frost between every blink.
It seems unfair that anything this cold could still hurt.
