The essence of "whatness". Whatever makes something the thing that it is.
A hammer is a hammer because it can hit nails to build. But the same can be said for a staff. Do it well enough, and an umbrella can build a home just the same.
So why must we call a hammer "a hammer"? What makes the man that uses the hammer a builder different from the one who uses the umbrella? They can shelter a family from the storm. And yet, one home can stand for so long.
This is 𝚀𝚞𝚒𝚍𝚍𝚒𝚝𝚢. This is what makes something the thing it is. The universal truth of being. The purpose bestows the name. The name bestows the purpose.
Then what is the essence of a being? For its name is ever changing, oscillating between positive and negative space. Conquest for knowledge, happiness, acceptance. Bleakness and the indomitable human spirit.
So what is it? Is it the body? Is it the mind? Or is it the soul that brings the essence of whatness?

Bee loves Loona. Not the same way she loves Tex. Not the same way she loves getting wasted or having cotton candy. Not the same; it's its own thing but no less fucking real. She loves Loona. She has to. Even if she barely fucking knows her... because Loona isn't just a hound with a shitty lot in life-- Loona is a symbol.
Loona, without knowing it and without meaning to, represents the hurt and scarred, the beat down by the system, but... not beat through. Loona is angry, violent, and brash... but she's good. She's so good, and Bee loves her.
Bee's always had a soft spot for the underdog type.
(But, even though Bee's always had the power to technically make things better, the platform to argue for those in her care... she hasn't. She's a Sin; she's careless, gluttonous... it's her thing. Never, never has Bee felt shame for that, though.
But, watching Loona's young eyes glimmer with tears, Bee feels a shame so pervasive and suffocating that for the first time in forever... she's not hungry.)
