“Rem, stop!” he yells, turning to her, then covering his mouth.

Summary
18-year-old Light Yagami comes into possession of the Death Note, a notebook with the power to kill anyone who's name is written in it. Driven by his sense of justice, he becomes Kira, the god of the new world.
With criminals dying en masse, the NPA calls in the world-famous detective L to help stop a mysterious serial killer known as Kira. But, there's just one little snag. L already knows who Kira is- himself. However, when L realizes there may be another Death Note out there somewhere, and that someone else is pulling the strings, he accepts the case, hoping to stop the other Kira and hide his little secret.
But when he finally comes into contact with the other Kira, he suddenly has to choose between leaving him for dead or teaming up with him to remake the world.

Summary
L never thought ahead much other than the steps he would need to take to be both successful in his cases and in getting the few things he wants on occasion. L definitely never thought that there would be something worse than the injustice and the killing that Kira was doing. He certainly never thought that he would hate something enough to confide in his enemy and he never thought that he would lose that one thing that gave him a sense of purpose.
