Tommy gets into a bit of a pickle, nearly dies, all that fun stuff. Wilbur decides to blow up Manburg as Techno runs back to Pogtopia with an injured Tommy.
The thing is, now Wilbur is stuck in the middle of a town that is erupting into flames around him. Techno makes a call to someone. You have three guesses as to who it is. Guess.

“I don’t believe you for a second,” the villager said with a scoff. “Reviving the dead? You, a god? That’s the most preposterous thing I’ve heard in all my years.”
“Oh? You don’t believe me?” Dream smiled. “That’s okay, I’m more than willing to give you all a demonstration. Tommy,” he called, gesturing to the blond.
Tommy knew exactly what was going to happen, and he knew that there was no point in resisting, for it’d be over quicker if he gave up and went along with it (and if he struggled he’d really just be making a fool of himself). So he walked over to Dream, quietly, obediently, and stood facing the crowd. At least his death would be quick this time, he thought, as he shut his eyes and felt the cool of metal against his neck. One slash, and the world went dark.
Or: Tommy didn’t originally plan to hit the water when he jumped off the tower in Logsted, so he hit the ground instead. Dream decides that’s as good a time as any to test out the revival book, and upon succeeding, decides he’s a god and it’s high time he gained some followers.

His instincts tell him that Tommy is a hallucination brought upon his unusually long hibernation. After all, Tommy faked his death and ran off months ago, well enough that the entire server believed he was actually dead.
Which he wasn’t, because he was alive and hiding somewhere.

He thought they could work past that! To become close as they once were. But Tommy is dead, and Phantommy just isn't the same. Any references and jokes Tubbo tries fall flat and there's just nothing there connection wise.
He feels tears prick at the edge of his eyes and pushes it down, he can't cry, won't cry. He's fine. He'll be fine. He hasn't suffered the pain of a final death nor is he an amnesiac ghost, but he feels a sword being stabbed through his gut nonetheless.
Or, Tubbo's alone. This is how he handles it.

It was Wilbur who found him.
This vigilante was no longer a law-breaking, arrogant, humorous criminal; he was nothing more than someone whose childhood had been stripped from him as he chose a life as close to heroism as he could.
It felt slightly immoral to want to uncover it considering that the boy was no longer alive but Wilbur was incredibly intrigued to know just who ‘Red Guy’ was behind the mask. The kid never explicitly showed the use of a power, leaving it up to a lot of speculation. If you ask him, it might as well have been the ability to be endearingly unbearable.
…Fuck.
Oh fuck.
OR
Wilbur finds the vigilante every hero’s been trying to catch, no longer alive and the small figure of the hilarious guy reminds him of Tommy. Annoying, selfish little Tommy.
There’s a reason he subconsciously linked the two together.

"No... But lady death has plans for him and you should pray Theseus doesn't return for revenge." XD responded.
"He couldn't kill me if he tried." Dream smiled.
...
But now he stands in fear before Tommy's lifeless eyes, in every universe.

When Tommy had been exiled across the sea, he’d sent Tubbo many flower bouquets: one of blue hyacinths and white tulips, one with both pink carnations and white orchids, and one of lilies of the valley. At the time, he didn’t know that there was a meaning behind them. He just thought that his friend had been trying to bribe him into pardoning his crimes with corny actions.
Nevertheless, he’d pressed every flower he’d received in a book, dried them up, and kept them. He thankfully had the foresight to hide them in a chest in his oldest house before Doomsday, and to never tell a soul about them, so they survived the devastation as well as Dream’s odd obsession with possessing anything that once belonged to Tommy. They’d remained in their own little bundle, collecting dust, for months.
And then Tommy died. And Tubbo’s heart stopped.
