But trying to plan her own future she finds out it was planned out for her. So now after being yeeted back A thousand or so years in the past she must figure out how to live. But, after finding out her destiny is trying to help a teenage Warlock, who has no impulse control to save a Prince who's ego is the size of a planet, and possibly stop the downfall of a crazy witch girl with daddy issues, she comes to the sudden realization that it's not going to be easy. It's going to be fucking hard.

The woman was still looking, her delicate face blank as if she was considering… Taking Jericho in, head to toe.
Traitorously her guts twisted when she received a smile back, a small one, but a smile nonetheless.
Then the woman turned back, reacting to something the girl next to her had said, their attention back on whatever was going on behind Jericho.

Jericho sighed again, her feet moving on their own.

“My mother is dead because of him,” is all he manages and he barely notices how broken his own voice sounds.
A noticeable beat passes through the air and when Merlin speaks again, despite the emotion in his voice, he doesn’t deny it.

On one hand, his best friend and manservant has magic, and the girl who he considers to be his sister may also have magic, and neither one of them seem to understand the concept of subtly. On the other hand, for the first time in literally his whole life, Arthur feels like he has friends who like him for him, and not for his status as heir to the throne. All of this would be a whole lot simpler if the Great Dragon in the basement wasn't such a bloody nuisance.

Summary
It had become a regular routine, like all things in his life. He would purposefully get the earlier train once he discovered Gwen also took that train. Sure, Arthur had to wake up earlier and had to walk around aimlessly so that he wouldn’t be ridiculously early to work, but it was worth the extra minutes he got to spend in her company. He hadn’t yet struck up a conversation (well, that was if you didn’t count the cafe’s “Hi, the usual?” “Hi, yes please.” as conversation) yet, but it was next on the bucket list.
He was aware that his behaviour could seem stalkerish, but Arthur had a very good explanation. He was determined to get Gwen to like him, and for that, he needed to know her interests. Right now, he understood that she loved to knit or something because she was never not seen without yarn and some weird hook thing. Oh, and she was definitely a dog person, which was great because so was Arthur.
So, a perfect fit.
But, tragedy struck because it seemed destiny had other plans to Arthur.
Or Arthur thinks he's found his fairy tale until he does. Unfortunately, he'd taken things into his own hands before then. Cue the headache and heartache.

Merlin glanced warily down the corridor before slipping into Morgana’s chambers again. Instantly, he felt a sharp poke into his chest as Gwen held a candlestick threateningly before lowering it down with a hasty apology once she saw his face.
“I thought you were the guards,” she explained and Merlin waved her apologies away.
“No, no, that was good. Arthur’s leading searches for the boy,” he said as he opened his bundle of fruits and breads. “I heard Lady Emilia’s maidservants were thoroughly questioned after one slipped and mentioned a druid lover she used to have.” He pushed past the curtain to find Morgana cradling the boy in her lap. “How is he?”
“Still asleep, but he’s much more pale than he was before.” Morgana accepted an apple gratefully and gestured for the others to eat as well. “Of course Arthur’s trying to find him. So desperate to get on Daddy’s good side. He would try to find the boy by himself so that Uther will praise, like a dog would perform for a master,” she said with a growing smile. Merlin snorted involuntarily.

An attack by a group of assassins leads to Merlin’s magic being revealed and Arthur doesn’t take it well. Meanwhile, Uther’s knights hate Merlin and Gwaine and the Knights of the Round Table are just about ready to stage an uprising. Feat. Arthur having a massive existential crisis.

“Why did you do it?” He tries his best to mask the desperation and betrayal from his voice. He needed to judge this as a king. “You know what it did to Morgana. You know how the forces of sorcery corrupt. You’ve been supporting me all these years in the fight against magic, haven’t you? So why would you resort to such a revolting power such as magic?”
“I was born with it. I am magic.” Arthur felt his self-control snap.
“Then why the hell would you come here?” He practically shouted.
Merlin made no move to answer, silently staring at him through hooded eyes.
Arthur felt his temper flare. He made his way out of the dungeons, giving the guards orders to keep a close eye on the sorcerer.

Summary
After Merlin's magic is discovered by Arthur, he understands the king's need for some time apart. But the loss of the king's trust is a bitter pill to swallow, and even more so the loss of his love. Forced to wait until Arthur is willing to deal with him again, Merlin begins to realize that the loss of Arthur's love isn't just emotionally painful, but physical as well. He hasn't been able to breathe without pain since that day in the forest. And his cough is producing flower petals, a sign that something much worse is going on. Merlin isn't stupid, but he without options. There's no cure, and even if there was, it's definitely not pressure he's willing to put on his love. Merlin is content with his decision.
Arthur isn't.
