Way better conflict resolution than the comic (fr like why would Aang agree to kill Zuko his bestie but not kill Ozai the worst person ever?? I assume it was just kinda a yeah sure I’ll agree bc it’s not gonna ever happen but then he almost acts on it?? Like huh??) this is so much more reasonable and more in character. Honestly I understand Zuko in the comics not wanting to bother Iroh but Iroh not wanting to help his nephew who he has stood by the past 3 years, I know he’s made mistakes in the past like not standing up for him at the Agni Kai so u would think he has learned from that and would continue to be there for him as he has. But like I think maybe the comic could’ve been like the beginning of this and then maybe each member of the gaang tryna help before they end up just getting Iroh involved bc Zuko would’ve been adamant against it at first but eventually they have no choice b it to involve Iroh. The flaw with that and with the original comic is that idk why Iroh wouldn’t have been there in the first place. I know canonically he wanted to just have his tea shop and play pai who every day but like he could help get the FN settled first then do that or like figure out a way to do both I mean u got airships now. Anyway wow this turned into a rant o do enjoy the comics but they def do have their issues and fics like this r cathartic

What starts as awkward dinners and reluctant friendship edges closer to the truth Zuko has never dared to speak aloud, and when the truth refuses to stay hidden, Hakoda and Sokka are left to decide how far they’ll go for a boy who’s never been told he deserves to be loved.

Zuko heard screaming coming from down the hallway. He and Mai were in his bedroom when they heard it. It came from the northern wing, where his friends were staying.
He and Mai barged into Sokka's room, flames and knives in hand, needing to be ready in case they truly were in trouble. "What's wrong? Where's the danger?" He scanned the room for a threat, but as he noticed nothing unusual he let it drop.

Summary
Zuko gets cursed by the Fire Sages and transformed into a dragon at Ozai's command. (Zuko did not know, he was lied to by Ozai.) Ozai tries to control Zuko to use him as a weapon for war, but Zuko is finally done with his father's shit. Due to Zuko fighting back and not complying, Ozai has Zuko locked away under the Fire Sages' Temple.
After the Eclipse, newly crowned Firelord Iroh is approached by Fire Sage Shyu who informs Iroh of the dragon situation. Shyu does not know that the Dragon is Zuko, just that the Fire Sages were keeping a captive dragon below the temple.
Zuko attempts to communicate with those around him, but nobody really pays attention to what he is doing, because a baby dragon is adoreable. And Zuko in dragon form is the size of a cat.
