    Clint is only a couple of sips into his cardboard cup of coffee, his brain barely out of neutral, which is probably why it takes him so long to realize that some damn psycho is trying to kidnap his dog.

    Excerpt:

    “I’m not some charity case,” Bucky says pugnaciously.

    “I didn’t think you were,” Clint answers back readily enough. “I mean, I can tell you’re fucked up for sure, but of the two of us, I’m probably the bigger disaster. My sleep schedule is shit, and I drink coffee straight from the pot. I sing in the shower even though I’m deaf as fuck. I have arrows everywhere because I’m an archer — did I tell you that? And I was raised in a literal circus, so I’m not exactly domestic. Let’s see, what else?” He squints down at the ground, rubbing the back of his neck. “Oh, yeah, I won the building in a poker game with the Russian mafia and every once in awhile they show up and try to take it back, but usually I handle it, no problem. Uh...”

    Clint happens to looks up and Bucky’s eyes are wide, his mouth hanging open. Clint’s hand freezes where he’s rubbing the back of his neck, suddenly embarrassed. Yeah, when you put it all out there at once, it doesn’t sound so good.

And the only one who could ever get him to pull his head out of his ass isn't coming back. Unless...

    Clint has a probably terrible idea, but time travel's a thing they can do now. Of course Clint hadn't counted on Barnes jumping onto the platform and everything after that point is on Barnes. If he'd left well enough alone, none of this would have happened.

    Clint's been having nightmares – nightmares about someone called Mama.
    The nightmares are vivid-sometimes he can’t tell if he’s awake or not and that scares him more than anything. He’s supposed to be able to focus in on anything- he’s the eyes of the Avengers not being able to see and decipher reality from fiction could destroy what he believes to be his already unstable position on the Avengers. He wishes that he could just blame the nightmares on Loki but the trickster hasn’t been the focus of any of his nightmares since the 2 weeks after the whole invasion incident.
    He’s losing sleep at night and sinking back into his old habits of ignoring the problem, drinking himself silly and taking refuge in the beds and embraces of one night stands. He has no idea if he’s losing it or not and he knows better than to say something to the other Avengers because that would only lead to him getting kicked off the team and losing his new home and new family. As the reawakened presence slowly starts to reinsert itself into Clint's life the Avengers start to realized that whatever this thing is that it might end up taking away their archer and they won't let that happen.

After a decade of unfortunate events, Clint accidently types, "I want to be happy". From there, a strange number of things start occurring, starting with a text back of "Understood", and followed by a series of strange happenstances. Then there is that really handsome guy whose apartment he accidentally crashed into with big blue eyes who sometimes asks Clint, "Are you happy?" Which really, what exactly is Clint supposed to say to him?

It sucks to have watched Clint's hands shake so much while he signed that he got annoyed and shoved a single hearing aid into his brother's ear just so he could fucking hear himself talk instead. The aggravation had died out when Clint had asked if he could get Kate to bring some of her arrows as replacements. The ones that were here were used to kill the kid. Barney threw them out with a little wince that a few were those trick arrows his little brother crafted carefully. He can make new ones. He can learn how and make them with just as much care. Take them to his brother and try to weave a smile out of his face.
