In an infinite multiverse, not everything is as it seems. Not only do strange beings, spirits, and many deities exist, but aspects of different universes are leaking into one another.
AKA I loved the worldbuilding in the first book (especially the concept of dæmons and the inclusion of witches) but really didn't like the amount of focus on Christianity, like a lot of the third and some of the second book were really confusing to me because it assumes the readers are/were Christians when the first book had barely anything to indicate they were the target audience??? Soooo I made a list of ways to potentially rewrite the plot and lore specifically to include other faiths AND focus more on the regular people than some angelic war...It's in list form because I have neither the motivation nor time to rewrite an entire book series
(This was in my drafts for a while so certain parts hit way harder now than they did when I first wrote them...I also got rid of the mulefa because they creeped me out and they were really only used as a plot device for Dr. Malone)

Summary
Waterboy spends every day after work dreading the next. Being a hero is great, but the constant pressure he puts on himself begins to exacerbate his anxiety. Especially with Flambae berating and belittling him every chance he gets. Getting cursed seems to be just another tally on his exhaustingly long list of rotten luck. So how come things actually begin to improve for once? After all, if you've hit bottom, the only place you can go is up, right?
Flambae doesn't need anyone or anything. He has his family, after all, and a job he likes enough not to want to fall back into committing arson. Sure, he might butt heads occasionally, but it has never impacted his performance before, even when Robert continually threatens him to be nicer to Waterbitch. When he winds up taking home a stray cat after work, he can't even begin to fathom how this might just turn his world upside down.
Or: Waterboy gets cursed to turn into a cat at nightfall. It ironically ends up bringing him and Flambae closer.
