She uproots her boots from the floor and shoves up between the two of them, and nearly trips over her own feet because there’s a baby in a stroller sitting in the middle of the wrecked building.

Of course Gem wanted to go outside. She wanted to see for herself the beanstalks that grew, everything the farmers did, she wanted to be around Pearl, the queen was defibetly fit to beat up any Rivendell soldiers that want to find her.
But everytime she got near the door, she would hear something. Maybe a few too many laughs that together sounded like Xornoth's echoey voice. A gruff snort of a pig, like in the nether. Stoves burning and cackling as they baked.
Just little things like that that would remind her of Xornoth. That reminded her why she was in Gilded Helanthia in the first place. Gem was on the freaking RUN. From Rivendell, a NEARBY KINGDOM, that no doubt had allyship or trade arrangements with the farming kingdom.
Ones that would allow Xornoth to storm in as a fellow ruler, do a search, the likes. Gem didn't want to be out in the open fields when that happened.
Or
Gem had ran away from Xornoth, after years of their manipulation and years of using her, to Gilded Helanthia. And even though she is under Pearl's protection, she can't feel like everything is okay.

Katherine wasn’t sure what she expected when she got a ping on her com from Sausage, asking her to spar. Well actually, she did know what she expected. She expected to head to Sanctuary and participate in a few sets of long, flashy duels over the course of the evening. Just her and Sausage duking it out, the best foundation of a friendship.
What she hadn’t expected to see when she got there was the addition of one witch sitting cross-legged next to the usual water bottle station.
