    The year is 1988. Clark Kent is a 14 year old boy living in Smallville, Kansas. He's a quiet, kind-hearted dork who loves comic books and is keeping one of the greatest secrets in human history, namely that he is secretly an alien from outer space. As far as the rest of the world is aware, UFOs and ghosts and all of that "weekly world news" stuff is just as fictional as the superheroes in Clark's comics, and so he keeps his secret, always wondering where he came from and always wondering what he could accomplish if he had the courage to stop hiding and start using his alien abilities to help people, like the heroes in the stories he reads.

    One night, Clark is attacked by time traveling villains who seek to wipe him out before he can become a threat to them, and is rescued by J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter, who received a message from his future self warning of the temporal incursion. Clark must then go on the run, evading the cabal of supervillains who are trying to kill him, and find and recruit other strange kids with strange abilities and backgrounds who will one day join Clark in founding the Justice League of America.

    That is, if they can survive.

    Happy birthday to my favorite very real midwesterner, Clark Kent! I started this like forever ago, forgot about it, and now I'm back. It's based entirely on an episode of the 2005 Justice League Unlimited show because I found it on Netflix and decided to recreate my childhood dreams. You don't need to have seen the episode to understand this (reading this is basically seeing the episode tbh).

      “CLARK! CLARK! ”

       

      He tried to touch Clark's shoulder, but the youngest flinched. He turned to Bruce shortly afterwards, but he didn't seem to be fully in tune with reality and it scared the bat.

       

      “Let go of the plant. NOW! ” - Please, let it go.

       

      "Oh."

       

      “What? What is it? Something wrong? ” - Because he was smiling.

       

      “ It had already started. I'm already dreaming. ” - What?

      “Don't be absurd you are not dreaming. Now hand over that thing. ”

      "I'm dreaming." - God knew Bruce wanted this to be one of his nightmares.

      “Why would you think this is a dream? The plant is right there. ”

      "You are here." Oh, that wasn't good.

      "And?"

      "You wouldn't be here if this was real." - Bruce took back everything he had thought he felt in his bastard. Because what was he feeling right now? It didn't even compare. Bruce didn't even know what expression his face was feeling, he just wanted Clark back from whatever plane he was on. He crushed that damned plant with his boot.

       

      "This is real Clark." - I'm real.

      ".. is not." - I'm sorry.

      "Why are you so dead set on this being fake?"

      "I just wanna be happy." - I'm so sorry.

      "And you can't be happy if this was real?"

      "You wouldn't be here if this was real." - I'm a bad friend, but I'm here.

      "But I'm here Clark." - I'm finally here.
