A log cabin lost in the woods, forever out of sight but, hardly out of mind due to the rumors that spread.
"I heard a serial killer lives out there."
"I bet it's a cult's summoning grounds."

In truth, however, it was none of those things. It was just Clay, better known as Dream to his friends. He had lived in the woods since he was fifteen, finding the cabin in a rather unlivable condition but, with help from his friends, they fixed it up.
Even so, the man lived on his own and, while he'd never admit it, he got lonely. Sure, he had friends, but they all lived in cities miles away from his quaint little cottage. They visited sometimes, but Dream could never bring himself to leave the safety of the woods. They understood, but it didn't stop the guilt from creeping in.
Dream just wanted someone to keep him company, someone to laugh with, someone to cry with, just someone to remind him.Oh, and I regret to inform you that, while cats are indeed warm and loving, they cannot always provide the same comfort a human does. I apologize Patches but, fear not, you are still included in this story. :)

Being outside at this time just hit different, to put it simply. I was more alive in this setting. It was a shame for me to be awake in the day — wasteful, even — but that's the whole reason this tradition started. So even when I couldn't be active throughout the entire night, I had this. I had my stroll through the hour of darkness.

But even well-known tales have their embellishments, their over exaggerations, and Karl knows this very well. He’s dug through his fair share of rose-tinted myths before, but nothing quite like this.
For the most part, Karl’s work has been in falsehoods. Cotton-candy clouds spun into webs of lies that only grow, each new spider adding a twist here or there. But this time, he realizes as he stares down at the castle from his hill, this time it’s real.
