Summary
When Odin finds a newborn babe in the war-torn wasteland that is Jotunheim, he takes it home; Frigga is the one to insist they must treat it as their own, and Odin loves her, so he obliges.
And then she dies, and Odin has no time for a child that only reminds him of the very thing he lost - he barely has time for his own young, grieving son.
So he locks it in the Vault, and calls it a trophy from the frozen realm.

All Loki knew for a long, long time were the four walls that held them, and the distorted view into the room beyond - filled with trinkets they couldn't name.
There were flashes of something else, of a woman who held them close and hummed lullabies, of a boy with hair like the sun, and a bright blue sky - but the memories were insubstantial and fleeting, slipping through their fingers like smoke.

"What is Loki doing?" Odin asked Heimdall.
"Nothing too bad or too good," the Watcher of Worlds replied calmly without looking at his king.
" 'Nothing too bad' is better than I could expect. It has been suspiciously quiet in Jotunheim recently, I will send Thor to figure out what Loki is plotting".
This is a translation of my own work originally written in 2021 and partly inspired by the War of the Realms comics. I'm sincerely sorry if there are any language imperfections, please tell me if corrections are needed!

Summary

I'm pulling a few bits from the myths to create a backstory for Tyr and Odin, and making plenty up as I go. Loki is not the villain. Odin isn't outright evil but he's very very flawed. Thor is a product of his upbringing.

I wanted to write about how he learned that brutality, and how it would have lead to the character we see in Thor 1 and later. I have always wanted to explore a younger version of Loki in general, and imagine more about his childhood, youth and coming of age before he becomes what we see of him in the MCU.

I don't have anywhere near as much Loki fic finished or posted as what I've actually planned or written, but it's practically all I'm talking about or writing right now, so I wanted to set this up because I'm anal and I like organizing things, and in case anyone's mostly interested in following that stuff specifically. (Not that I'm prolific enough to make anyone worry about getting notifications for loads of non-MCU fic anyway, if that's what you're here for.) So far, nearly all of these are standalone oneshots, not related except for character focus and general theme, and they're arranged more or less in descending chronological order.
