It feels silly-- it really does. After all, he’s spent years helping build new Hyrule. Spent years working with Tetra-- now Zelda, fully established in her role as queen-- to corral evil and ne’er-do-wells and create a functional government. Spent years fighting evil on five separate quests, all in the hopes of a peaceful future on land, watching as Zelda grew from a cranky, rebellious teenager into a sharp-witted, intelligent leader.

“Just accept it, you grump,” Wild chuckled, helping pull their veteran back into the group hug.
Legend’s face grew redder, and then he was hiding his face in Warriors’s scarf.
And then, they had parted, eyes red and faces blotchy, and Four almost laughed at the sudden discovery that they were all ugly criers.
Four looked at the portal waiting for him, waiting to take him home. He cast one last look over his shoulder at his brothers, ingraining their faces into his memory, and then he stepped through.

"…do you know who you are?" the old hero asked tentatively.
The dragon was unfazed, empty eyes staring right past him. "I am the Light Dragon. I have roamed the skies of this land for centuries."
"Sure, yeah." He gulped uncomfortably. "But do you remember who you were before?" No recognition flashed in the dragon's eyes. The Wolf briefly turned to look at his brother, standing a few feet behind him. He took in a shaky breathe. "Do you remember him?"
For once, there seemed to be the shadow of something, some emotion swimming behind those kaleidoscopic eyes. The dragon turned its stare to Wild who felt uncomfortably transparent and desperately hopeful under its gaze.
"This is the Hero of Hyrule, his spirit the guardian of the land for almost as long as I have roamed its skies. He visits me sometimes. Brushes my mane. Talks to me of things I do not understand and memories I cannot recall. He says that he loves me. He is kind."

Summary
Link feels like he’s forgetting something.
There are names on the tip of his tongue that he just can't quite recall. Trinkets in his bag that don’t belong to him, scars he’s not sure when he got, tendencies and habits he’s never had before.
Really, he’s been living in his house for a year now. Why is his first instinct to pull out a bedroll at night? It takes him an extra second at dinnertime to remember he has to actually get up and cook it-- what’s that all about? Since when, on his harp, do his fingers drift to notes by muscle memory of tunes he’s never heard of?
But he’s solved a few puzzles in his time. He’s solved seven-- no, six-- (seven? Where’d that number come from?)-- six adventures’ worth of them. And that’s more than enough to figure this single one out.
Write down for the history books that the Hero of Legend is nothing if not curious, and nothing if not determined.
Or: in which the timeline's gotta pretend to stay intact somehow. They all get around it anyways.

Ravio is determined to save Legend from his own mind, but a new force stirs violently within him since his last adventure.

Summary
“Octavo, I swear upon the Golden Three and the Land’s Songs, I dreamt of this place. A blade, a holy blade rests here, and a hero with golden hair and bright eyes will be waiting."

Zelda has a prophetic dream and goes to investigate; Octavo is forced to come along. When a hero who has risen to the challenge many a time appears, stating that he is the last resort of the goddesses, it is up to the three of them to pluck the chords of fate and pray to the Golden Three that the land is not as doomed as they are being led to believe. It does not help that this stand-in "Hero" has the social awareness of a concussed tablespoon and the tact to match; there is only so much time left before the end arrives.

Summary
The portal closed behind Legend, and he had to sit down for a minute, head in his hands. The cold of night was somehow amplified by his brothers’ absence, and he shivered, rubbing his hands against his arms. What he wouldn’t give to be back in the Chain, sitting around the campfire and sharing stories from their adventures.
Legend has lived through a lot of goodbyes, and he has always known his time with the Chain was limited. That he'd have to go back to his own era one day. That doesn't make it easier to accept.
