Because that movement made his scuffed yellow converse shoes graze the pavement and move a couple of stones which made an ear-splitting sound in the quiet and forced those blood-red eyes to turn to him. And when Tommy’s eyes met the eyes of the Blood God he knew that Techno knew.
"Theseus?"
And that’s all it takes. One fucking word and his world which is collapsing around him in big waves which threaten to drown him just crumples entirely around him leaving him sitting in the wet puddle of blood and water with his battered up converse and ripped jeans and favorite hoodie which he stole from Wilbur about five months ago and didn’t give back. Tommy’s teary blue eyes meet the brown of his brother and he fucking sobs.

Tommy has limited vision in the box he's currently in, only having seen Orpheus's legs and the end of his trench coat when he walked past through the small gap of the box.
So Tommy can't see what's happening. He's relied heavily on sound but that's useless when the person you're listening for is just… silent.
Tommy, in his dumbass brain, considers taking a peak to see if he's still there or if he's gone now before all hell breaks loose.
The boxes flap open and crouching at the entrance is Orpheus himself. Upon seeing Tommy inside, he grins.
"There you are".

Summary
Seconds later, the window the three villains were going to use as their escape route crashed and burned, an explosion reeling the Angel back a couple feet. The ceiling collapsed around them, which wasn't necessarily good since there were multiple floors above them.
He laughed weakly as Siren started to panic and the Angel tried to calm him down. They ignored him. Theseus… no, Tommy, was dying, so why would they care about the words of a dying man?
He ended up trapped in a building, bombed by the very agency supposed to protect him, injured and weak when he was supposed to be fighting the three villains in front of him. He soon gave up though, because he was abandoned by the agency. It wasn't because he was starting to sway side to side from blood loss, or the lack of oxygen. Tommy's mask didn't have a filter for smoke, so his lungs kept gasping for oxygen, oxygen that he felt like he couldn't get. He couldn't breathe.

The Codfather’s loose shirt is gone now, and while Scott certainly hadn’t expected that level of muscle definition, that isn’t what he’s focused on. Jimmy’s torso is littered with scars. They’re all over, some large and others tiny, some an aged white and others a shiny red. He gapes at them, confused—what had happened? Is the sea really that dangerous? He knows Jimmy’s clumsy, does it justify this?
“What happened to you?” he blurts out, and Jimmy turns to him, face a picture of confusion, before his eyes follow Scott’s gaze. Comprehension dawns and his face closes off.
“You know how it is,” he says coolly, and Scott is pretty sure he does not, in fact, know how it is.

Which put Ren in this unenviable position of rejecting someone he very much likes. Martyn is the sweetest, funniest, smartest person Ren knows and he wants so badly to give him gift after gift after gift and make him dinner and have his back in battle and cuddle in bed and … well, that’s the problem. Ren doesn’t want anything more than that.
But Ren is nothing if not a romantic, and he just can’t help the swoop in his belly that he feels every time he sees Martyn. He almost wants to apologize to the man, but he can’t even picture how to do that. “Hey Martyn, I’ve been feeling all strange about you inside and I’m sorry for parasocially crossing your boundaries?” Yeah, right.

Summary
Tommy was fairly certain bedrock was unbreakable, and even if it wasn't, there definitely wouldn't be a vast, unending void underneath that is actually a portal to a perfect world.
Grian was fairly certain things were only supposed to go in the Boatem Hole, not come out, and even if something did, it would be diamonds or a reward for their sacrifices or something that wasn't a random teenage boy.
To be fair, neither of them had put too much thought into it before. Maybe that excuses the reaction they had when their expectations were exceeded.
