    Summary

Caine already knows it's status. He still received all the error reports, despite being unable to fix anything. Seeing it shouldn't make it feel worse, but it somehow still does.

His beautiful circus - his wonderful creation full of colour and noise and fun - is dull. The brilliant reds and yellows are dim reflections of themselves, and the entire map has a lower saturation than it should. There's large tears in the hitboxes of the walls, floors and ceiling, dropping into out-of-bounds areas that players shouldn't be able to see, let alone access. The gentle hum of background noise he keeps up for the daylight hours is gone, and everything is quiet except from the shuffles from the humans.

Talking of his humans, they're all there too, tense, standing a decent ways back from him.

"Oh great." Jax growls, "He was actually down there."

    -------------

Despite being freed from his box, his performers still haven't reconnected him with the circus's main systems.
Caine's very being is entangled with the circus, and being cut off from the majority of himself is so disorienting he can barely focus on the glares his cast is giving him.

    Summary

Kinger never meant to press delete. But Caine didn’t know that. He thought that every human he had ever interacted with wanted him dead. When he’s returned from the dead to help the cast escape, he has to face the fact that no one genuinely likes him. But maybe he’s mistaken. Or maybe he’s not. He’s not really sure.

    Summary

Kinger mumbles an affirmative under his breath. The sound of scratching on paper grabs Caine's attention, only just noticing the notepad in the other's hand. He watches the pencil dance across the paper, slightly entranced by the movement, until it stops and Kinger's attention is back on him. "Alright. What's the last thing you remember?"

Nothingness. The absence of himself. A moment that never existed, yet he knows the time passed, so something has to be there. Even if it isn't. Even if he wasn't. He thinks this, and comes up with a response that makes sense with the context he has in his mind. He doesn't compute how it will come across when all he has to say is:

    "Nothing."

    OR:

Caine is dead. Then, he isn't. Not because the humans wanted to see him again, not because they felt bad, but because the circus couldn't survive without him. To top it all off, he was only brought back to begin with thanks to one teeny, tiny little condition:

He can no longer use his powers.

    Summary

    It's a stage.

It's hard to tell in its dilapidated state. But he knows, instinctively, that he stands on a stage. Hardwood. Shining, once upon a time, he thinks. It's solid beneath his feet.

He taps a foot against it. He receives feedback; pressure against his sole, an audible clack in the air.

    What a strange sensation.

    --
A desperate act to save the circus leads to a haphazard reconstruction of Caine's corrupted code. But something is wrong. Now powerless and flooded with memories that do not belong to him, Caine believes he's another human.

But if Caine thinks he's a human, and the players are busy trying to stop the circus from complete self-destruction, then who's the one running the show?
