Cloud wakes up and doesn't know where he is. Not uncommon, alright, but, well - something's really wrong with his head this time, vision not lining up, the previous day's events empty, world seeming flat and distant, everything at the other end of a long tunnel - Barret says he has a concussion. He doesn't remember getting a concussion.
The little cabin at the foot of the glacier spins around him, the tug in his chest begs him to keep climbing, to just get to the glacier, and he sits somewhere between them and tries very hard not to move.

At night, they’d sleep under the stars, safe in knowing there was always someone in their corner. A friend he never had to ask to be friends with.
Someone just for him.

“You… everything okay?” The man was still squinting at him.
Cloud narrowed his eyes back, trying to figure out what was wrong. Did he do something? A spike of adrenaline clamped around his spine and he crossed his arms, unsure how to explain the sharp exposure the world just focused into like a sniper scope. He couldn’t decide if he was the sniper or the target.

There's the Edward Elric the rest of the world knows, the great Fullmetal Alchemist, the child prodigy who could basically do anything.
And then there's the Ed that only Al ever sees, the one who complains that lights are too loud, doesn't understand people, and flaps his hands when he figures out an alchemical breakthrough.
Al knows that if the rest of the world saw the other side of Ed, they would think they could separate the two sides of Ed, pull away all the parts they didn't understand. But Al knows that both sides are just... Ed. So Al will always be the safe spot where Ed can be all of himself.

Taking a few more seconds to process who that voice belonged to, he turned and found Aerith sitting by his side, happy as ever. The light, teasing smile on her face made the back of his neck prickle in a cold sweat. Shocks ran down his spine, making him sit up straight, a crawling feeling that something was wrong.
What could be wrong, though? It was just Aerith — she always knew how to bring a smile to his face.

Counting the days seemed like a simple concept. How could he lose track of something like that? The sun is– Invisible. Down here. Without windows. The calendars– aren't on the wall. The food– doesn't come. Nutrients pumped straight into his veins. Fuck this, he thinks, god-knows how many days in. I want a fucking steak.

...Siffrin knew that just because they couldn't see the stars didn't mean they weren't there. Whether hidden by the sun or man-made light, or on full display in the blackened sky, the stars were always with him, always watching from above.
The thought used to comfort Siffrin. Now it only strengthened the ache in their gut that flared every time they thought of what they'd lost.
Siffrin eyes burned with tears. He bit his lip, hard, hoping to distract from the pressure building in his head.
Isabeau, of course, noticed first. "Hey, Sif, you alright?"
"Oh, yeah," Siffrin said, hastily wiping his face. "Doing great!"
Isabeau raised an eyebrow. "Okay. You sure?"
Siffrin shook his head. "It's nothing. Just…" He smiled, sadly. "Just… stars."
Siffrin is fine. He has a family that loves him and plenty of adventures ahead. He's fine.
But he still wants to remember.
And he can read his language now. And he has an ache in his soul that won't go away.
So what if every memory leaves him choking on his own blood? So what if the Universe doesn't want him to remember?
He has to at least try.

Tifa Lockhart thinks she must be going crazy. She met her childhood friend after seven years, but something feels off. She invites him on a mission with her eco-terrorist group Avalanche to keep an eye on him, but she keeps discovering more and more strange discrepancies about his version of the past and her own. She decides to continue to accompany him, even on his journey to defeat the legendary Sephiroth. What comes after is a story of love, mystery, grief, and friendship.
