Summary
Perhaps it was the rain, the weather forecast had called it the worst storm in decades—at least one to hit Gotham, which already did have pretty bad thunderstorms. The first droplets fell at 7 am, as if they were the warning of something way, way bigger coming.
Perhaps it was that spider that Dick had seen in his bathroom and that scurried below the sink after he screamed to the top of his lungs, seeing him with its thousand all-seeing eyes, hairy legs crawling in between all the cracks full of mold that he had promised himself to clean as soon as he could.
Or maybe it was the call. It was definitely the call.

The figure was in a black body suit, dark blue accents lining down the arms and up to the fingertips, a stylised bird on the chest. The uniform had tears in it, small cuts in the strong fabric on the arms, legs and chest, but as far as Tim could tell the blood was dry, the dirt equally as set.
Nightwing still wasn’t moving, his eyes staring into nothing, and if he hadn’t been sitting up unaided by the back of the couch, Tim might have thought him dead. His chest was barely expanding with any breaths, his body almost completely still as if frozen in place.
Tim knelt in front of him, exaggerating his every move before setting a hand on Nightwing’s knee. Nightwing did not so much as flinch and as Tim reached up, easing off the domino mask, Dick stared right through him.

Summary
Dick hasn't really had the time or care to deal with everything that's happened to him over the years. Sure, his life ebbs and flows when it comes to how chaotic the years are, but if he's not drowning in his work as a vigilante, he's doing everything in his power to keep moving and forget what's been done to him. What's hurt him is in the past, and he refuses to let it hurt him in the present. But what's left to fester will inevitably break, no matter how hard you try to push it away.
