Buck sat with him for a long time after he talked Tommy into leaving, unsure of what to say to make it better, almost certain he didn’t have the words necessary to help Eddie.
The next morning, Eddie acted as if the previous night hadn’t happened at all.
In the week that followed, he was always on the phone between calls, he heard him asking Chimney about how he took his leave when he went looking for Maddie, he saw Eddie and Hen having an intense conversation in the locker room.
He should have seen it coming, and he didn’t.--
