Forest Ranger Fiadh Labhrain is tasked with rescuing three climbers in the Washington Olympic Mountains from a freak ice storm. Taking cover in system of forgotten lava tubes, the four delve deeper, where they discover a direct magic source in a non-magical world. The magically irradiated hot spring at the end of the cave not only heals their wounds, but gives them powers they don't fully understand, as well as a portal to another world.
But, of course, the US military sees this site of misunderstood radiation and portal as a weapons. Fiadh must decide whether to follow orders or her morals as a conscientious objector. As her powers grow, maintaining her relationships will become just as challenging as her new, secretive life.
