Summary
AN UPDATED VERSION OF MY FIRST TMNT FANFIC
In an alternate universe where Splinter lives, Karai takes charge of the Foot Clan, transforming it into an honorable organization dedicated to good. The Shredder is dead, and life has returned to normal-except for one family member.
Mikey has been feeling useless and lonely at home, as his brothers constantly ignore him or become angry with him for his antics. One day, he finds comfort in a strange woman named Misaki Towa, who offers him sanctuary and support to lift his spirits, becoming a motherly figure to the turtle.
Unbeknownst to Mikey and his family, Misaki is the Shredder's widow.
After learning of her husband's death, she plans to avenge the Shredder by killing the turtles and Hamato Yoshi, with the help of the remaining Foot still loyal to him.
As the story unfolds, Mikey begins to lose his family's faith and love due to Misaki's poisonous manipulation and lies disguised as harsh truths.
Can Mikey's brothers and Splinter help him through this ordeal, or will Misaki Towa succeed in her revenge by poisoning the one person who is the heart of the family?

The turtles swap masks and see the world through a heavily stylized version of the thoughts running through each other's heads, except Leo. Suddenly he becomes very concerned and then the others find out, and then they have to embark on a spirit/meditation mission to free him from mental chains with different versions of their youngest brother. And then they have to confront a lot of things about Splinter. In simple terms, everyone needs some kind of therapy and something gets done about it.

Oh this was such a beautifully written series. I wasn't sure what to expect from the synopsis and hadn't been spoiled, so I was expecting mostly darkness and prison dimension terrors. Of course, these chapters were terrible (and written amazingly, of course) but I was suprised when they made it out after 10+ chapters, since the overall count is 43. I was thinking, what now? We're going to be in recovery for that many chapters? It's normally not something that fanfic writers dwell upon for so long, after all. But well, this one did. And they did so masterfully. It was actually a little triggering as someone that has struggled with some mental darkness in the past, even though I couldn't tell you why. I can't think of anything that caused it... but I know that sometimes the way Leo felt, and the way he'd subtly hurt himself was so deep, and so real. This fic really took it to the next level with the way they wrote the recovery of both twins. I'm actually at a loss of words for how to describe it exactly, but it was truly beautiful to read. And gosh, I was on the edge of my seat. EVERY. SINGLE. CHAPTER. I couldn't bear to stop reading until I fell asleep reading it, and I would have read it continuously if I didn't need to sleep. Just, my gosh, does this writer know how to end a chapter, and to set the stakes so high each week, and to build up the characters so that every event feels as life-altering as it is for the characters. Fantastic work, Remrose.
