Summary
Zuko flees from his father at eight years old, and winds up with no memory of his past. Jet rescues him and they grow up together, founding the Freedom Fighters.
As Zuko (Li) gets older, Jet becomes more of the leader while Zuko tends to the children more. Eventually, they have a child of their own and they can no longer live in the woods.
After moving to Ba Sing Se, the small family of three run into Iroh, disguised as “Mushi.” He guides them through the city with the secret intention of protecting them.
With her long lost brother wanted by her father in addition to her traitorous uncle, Azula plans to bring them back. However, she makes a deal with Jet, who has the trust of someone even more important to her: The Avatar.

Jet survives the events of Ba Sing Se, due to Sokka's interference. Now, there's a plan to invade the Fire Nation, and while Jet doesn't have the best history with the mind behind it, he's not passing up the opportunity.
Joining the invasion effort brings him face to face with Sokka once again and this time the two boys actually manage to strike a balance between themselves that slowly grows into something unexpected.

Summary
Lu Ten’s sleep was haunted with images of the Avatar falling as electricity sparked through the air. A fear of failure gripped his heart and muddied his thoughts.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Iroh seemed to be faring just fine. That is until a figure from his fake past becomes all too real.
The Fire Nation had always been a foreign place to Mako, no matter how much he wished otherwise. Traveling through the nation left him feeling somewhere between overwhelmed and excited.
They all have a choice to make.
After what happened below the City of Ba Sing Se, everything changed, even if the important things remained the same.
As the days slowly ticked down to the end of summer, the three men find themselves clinging to moments of happiness and bracing themselves for the inferno to come. The future hinges on the actions of today and they won't fail again. They can’t.

Four years have passed, since Iroh II and Mako first landed in the past.
With their bonds to one another firmly tied together, the three must now confront a past and future they've been long since hiding from.
The clock is ticking as time moves forward and the three men can no longer ignore the pull of the war. With children running amuck over the Earth Kingdom and dangers lurking around every corner, their personal struggles aren't the only thing they need to survive.

Then, to his utter shock, Katara laughs. Soft, restrained. So like all those times he’d say something that amused her on his ship. “You still haven’t learned to smile when you do that.”
He’s spent months living off the memory of her smile, turning away like it was the suns glare and he only deserved to be burned. Now he stares at it, lungs shriveling the longer he forgets to breath. Wasn't he supposed to be doing something? He can’t remember. Can’t remember his own name, let alone pay attention to a nagging voice that sounds a lot like Azula’s. The monks had told Aang and I of our destinies as coexisting Avatars earlier than usual since they feared there would be a great danger approaching us. I was a naïve kid. I hadn't yet wrapped my mind around the dangers and darkness looming around every corner of this world. I was also too ignorant to realize how stupid it was to think I could trust Aang. He left me to die, meaning he broke the promise we'd made the day we were told of our fates.
I had thought we were to always tough everything out together, but the contrary became clear to me once I was covered in wounds and wearily staring into darkness.

There are risks. Practical risks, like flammable items becoming damaged or their literal treehouse burning down. And indirect risks, like what if they’re wrong about him being a nobody? What if the little kidnappee is important enough for someone to go looking for him? It’s one thing to weigh the life of a firebender. It’s another thing entirely to consider risking the lives of your team for the bender in question. If taking a risk for a stranger, much less a fire stranger is what does them in in the end, Jet will never forgive himself.

(Unfortunately this would all be so much easier if Jet weren't so sexy and charismatic and perfect and - maybe in love with Zuko?)
