Summary
Arthur could not fake wellness for the whole duration of the meeting, as it turned out. Had the meeting ended when he expected it to, he would've been fine, but it had run over by two hours and it didn't seem anywhere close to wrapping up. His throat was so sore he didn't dare swallow, and he tried not to speak other than when it was absolutely necessary. He could feel Merlin's worried gaze burning a hole in the side of his skull but ignored it, keeping his attention on the council before him. The potion Gaius brought him had helped for the first bit of the meeting but its effects had worn off some time ago.

Merlin grumbled under his breath as he urged his mare forward through the pouring rain back towards Camelot. “Let’s go hunting, Merlin, the fall weather has been so nice and I’m sick of being stuck in the castle, Merlin.” Merlin shivered and pulled his neck scarf up to cover his chin.
“Did you say something, Merlin?” Arthur asked, looking just as miserable as Merlin felt.
“No.” Merlin shook his head. “Didn’t say anything.”
Arthur rolled his eyes. “I didn’t know it was supposed to rain or obviously I wouldn’t have suggested going on a hunt,” Arthur said, pausing to cough into his gloved fist.
“That cough doesn’t sound good, Arthur.” Merlin frowned in concern.
Arthur cleared his throat. “I’m sure it’s nothing.”
Merlin didn’t say anything, just looked the king over carefully as they trudged back to the castle.
