Summary
Yuletide in Camelot was a complicated thing.
Merlin had grown up with simple winter traditions: small gifts left on windowsills, bread shared between neighbours, his mother humming old songs while the snow piled against the door. Ealdor’s winter had been cold, yes, but it had been kind — a quiet, honest cold that wrapped around you and sat beside you at the fire.
Camelot’s Yuletide, by contrast, was a spectacle sharpened to a shine. Crimson and gold banners layered every wall and archway, richer and heavier than usual. Courtiers drifted through the halls in velvet and fur, jewels bright at throats and wrists, their laughter ringing too loud, as if joy were something that had to be proven by volume alone.
Below, the lower town seethed with it all — stalls packed into every sheltered corner, merchants shouting over one another, the air thick with spice and smoke and roasting chestnuts. It was dazzling, overwhelming, impossible to escape.
And above it all, the castle tradition: the Gift of the Longest Night.

Summary
For a split second that lasts eons, Arthur exists in that horribly weightless space before gravity conquers, and then he's falling. Distantly, he hears Merlin cry out his name in panic, and then he’s bracing himself for impact.

Summary
Life in Camelot has been hard after Morgana's betrayal, but when new snow covers the fields and the castle halls get a little too stuffy, Merlin convinces Arthur to go on a trip to unwind in the wintry beauty. Little does he know that since it's the Winter Solstice, his magic is significantly weakened, leaving him with no protection when bandits attack them. Worse, a snowstorm arrives, cutting them away from Camelot and any proper medical equipment.
Now, it is up to Arthur and the knights to save Merlin and make sure he stays warm.

It’d been his favourite once, about a young dragon enamoured with the sun — he flew so high and nigh he singed his scales in its halo-fire.
Merlin dried his eyes in his mother’s tunic and put up his first mental wall that day.
It wasn’t his last.

As Gwaine came level with the king, he jostled Arthur’s shoulder. “Down the pub, Evoric claimed the druids welcome the spring with their seed.” He waggled his eyebrows. Behind them, Merlin snorted. Gwaine carried on, “Do you think there will be some pretty maids with fertile soil that needs planting?”
“Gwaine!” Merlin groaned.
“Or a pretty lad? I’ve enough seed to go around.” Gwaine shrugged.
“I’m sure you do,” Arthur deadpanned.
“If either of you require any, just let me know!” Gwaine winked and mounted Gringolet.
Arthur chuckled as he watched him go. Merlin came into his line of sight, shaking his head. “And you deemed him worthy of knighthood.”
“As I recall, you made friends with him first,” Arthur retorted.
Merlin’s cheeks dimpled with a grin.
Arthur reached out and touched his finger to one. “Idiot,” he said fondly.
Merlin’s breath hitched but Arthur had already turned away to mount Hengroen. Absently rubbing his cheek, Merlin watched him go.

By the time Arthur and Gwaine find him he is sick and exhausted, but on the way back to Camelot he manages reveal something shocking - he knows who the traitor in Camelot is, and that they are in league with Morgana.
But will Arthur believe him? And what will he do with this knowledge?or
An alternative plot for s4e6 - A Servant of Two Masters, where Merlin doesn't get healed or brainwashed and remembers Agravaine brought him to Morgana. Also the classic magic confession and Merlin being our favourite self-sacrificing idiot.

Summary
All Merlin was expecting was a night off, maybe he'd have a glass of wine or read a book later, but for now he was content to sit by fire with his mending. He wasn't expecting a surly Arthur to come back to his rooms hours before he was due, his foul mood caused by some stupid Lord or other laughing at the surprising fact that (or at least Merlin thought so) the Prince was still a virgin. Even more surprising was that Arthur took Merlin's advice on the matter, arranging a tryst with a recently widowed Lady so-and-so, only for him to realize too late what a stupid idea that was.
Since he can't cancel now, Arthur demands Merlin teach him everything he knows about sex, which definitely isn't another stupid idea and definitely won't lead to at least one (or both) falling in love.

Able to relax for the first time in days, he let his knees buckle and his back slide down the wall. He hit the ground, and his vision turned to mist.
Merlin didn't make it out of his encounter with the Lamia unscathed, or so Arthur thinks when he slays the beast and finds Merlin slumped against the wall and bleeding. When he learns the true source of Merlin's injuries he is furious. He does his best to push that anger away though, because being there for Merlin matters far more right now.

'I can only tell you that the Tir Na Lei means no harm. Three is the number: the ritual is set. The circle will not call on Emrys again.'
