I would do anything she asked of me, would walk to the ends of the world so long as it brought her and the motherland glory. I take pride in being her Harbinger, sharpened to be the perfect weapon of war. There’s nothing more I can ask for…”
He hesitated.
“There's nothing more I can ask for… yet why does my heart yearn for it? Why does my heart yearn for more? It hurts. It hurts to feel so deeply for something that doesn't belong to me. Something that never could. Celestia knows that this burden is too heavy, so I’ve come to confess that…”
He met the stony glare of the statue with his own.

After La Signora got the gnosis of the Geo Archon, Zhongli suddenly vanished without a word, leaving Childe, who was angry at the fact that the man he spent multiple nights with didn't care or trust him to tell him he was the Geo Archon. In the weeks following Zhonglis vanishing, he started to feel weird and unwell, not knowing what was causing it at first.

Zhongli sighs. “It’s not that I do not wish to share the details of my life with a dear friend. But you might wish you hadn’t asked.”
“Try me,” Childe suggests. “Can’t be any weirder than anything else I’ve learned about you.”
Zhongli snorts softly through his nose, taking a sip of tea. “I believe I am undergoing an old ritual, of sorts. Though I am more human now than ever before, I find myself beholden to certain instincts."
“Oh?” Childe shifts upright, interested. “You mean… dragon stuff.”
Zhongli nods, licking his lips and directing his gaze away from Childe. “I believe,” he says again, the faintest tinge of color creeping over his cheeks, “that I am searching for a mate.”
Zhongli has been sleepwalking through the Liyue streets in the dead of night, unresponsive and with eyes aglow. Childe intends to get to the bottom of the situation, but everything changes when Zhongli reveals the likely motive behind his nightly wanderings.
Childe knows he shouldn't fuck Zhongli in his sleep. He really shouldn't. But when has he ever been sensible?
