"Hey." His voice is hesitant, and there's a pause before he rests his hand — warm, warm — on her arm, gaze softening slightly as he shifts down until he's holding her hand gently. " You okay? "
Something shifts, clicks. The turning of a gear, and flipping of a switch, and Chiaki nods, turning to him with a small smile. She shuts her eyes as her smile widens slightly, even if just so she doesn't have to see Hinata's frown, the way his eyebrows crease in concern.
"Yep." Her tone is deceptively light as she tilts her head slightly, feeling the cold metal of her hairclip press against her head. " I'm okay. Just totally surprised. Great job, Hinata. "
It's a bittersweet congratulations. She shouldn't have lost — it's unfathomable. It goes against logic — she's the Ultimate Gamer, she isn't supposed to lose.

Summary
Hajime has been one of Fuyuhiko's closest friends for over a fucking decade now, despite everything. Through the familial trauma, the dangers of his former life, the insistence from so many institutions that Hajime and his wife shouldn't be allowed to be the people they are, the two of them have always known, almost inexplicably, just what the other needs to hear. Known exactly what the other keeps hidden, made it clear that they can be the one to shoulder those burdens not put on anyone else's back.
Except... for this.
Except for the one thing that has lived, festering and smouldering and aching for air, smuggled into the tiny little lock box in the back of Fuyuhiko's brain. The one thing he planned to never, ever say out loud.
Wine drunk Fuyuhiko is not a very smart man.

Summary
In the beautiful city of Towa, past hotels and restaurants and apartment buildings sticky with memory and more blood than its citizens would care to know, there is a tall, darkened building. This building houses the Kamukura Institute, a research facility for the paranormal, strange, and mysterious. The top floors of this Institute teem with researchers and secretaries and paperwork, a bustling office of the macabre, but, below all that, there is the Archives. Here lie statements from the general masses, people who saw things that they shouldn't have and could go nowhere else. Of course, every Archive is only so good as its Archivist.
Kyoko Kirigiri has only had the job - complete with a team of research assistants, a mess of unorganized statements higher than she is tall, and a healthy supply of tape recorders - for a short while, but she figures that she's up to the task.
