Summary
Steve Rogers inherits a cabin in the woods from Doctor Erskine, the man who essentially raised him. He decides to leave the city and move into Doc's cabin for peace and quiet. He has only one neighbor, so he decides to introduce himself with a classic apple pie.
Then he sees his neighbor. His neighbor is the most handsome bear he's ever seen. He's seven feet tall, at the very least, and is broader than a chimney. Steve falls head over ass in love immediately.
And then it turns out his neighbor is literally a bear. Not just a bear, but a real, furry, snarling, honey-stealing bear. Bucky, it turns out, is a werebear.

That all gets shot to hell when Captain Steve Rogers is discovered in the wreckage of the Valkyrie.
Steve’s life was weird. He grew up skinny and sickly with his best friend by his side. When war came to his country, he wanted to fight, to protect people. He became a super-powered soldier, and a symbol of victory for his country. He fought against HYDRA and watched the love of his life fall to his death. He died and woke up in a new world, where nothing was the same. That is, until he runs into a young man that looks just like Bucky...

Top of Interpol and the FBI and the CIA and probably the NSA’s most wanted lists, but there’s never enough evidence to bring even a parking ticket against him, as it has been for New York’s Bratva since the late 1910s. His company smuggles weapons, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, exotic animals, you name it, but you’ll never find a shred of proof. If land barons still existed, then Barnes – owning property in all the five boroughs, the state, the country, even on other continents – would easily be one. When you think of the Russian mafia, you think of Barnes. Here is James Barnes, gracing the scum and lowlifes of Brooklyn with his presence, and here is Steve Rogers, not-so-cheap yet consistently broke hooker, sitting on his lap like he belongs there.
Very rapidly, that makes him the most dangerous Omega in New York.

Summary
For better or for worse (usually worse), Steve Rogers has been the most famous guy in the room for a while. And though newsreels have given way to YouTube, people's reactions haven't changed much in seventy-some years. Steve's become an expert at keeping his head down and getting on with his life.
A head-on collision on a busy street sends books flying and sweeps Steve off his feet. The point of impact has a name: James. A charming mess of long hair, thick glasses, and a crooked, not-quite-smile. If he recognizes Steve, he chooses not to comment, placing him firmly in Steve's good graces.
As far as Steve can tell, they might be Bogie and Bacall all over again, save for the group of idiots with selfie sticks who surround them. But for once, the request isn't for Steve.
Which begs the question: if James is James, then who the hell is Bucky?

Summary
Bucky stands alone in a room full of Steve’s coworkers wearing a light-up Hanukkah sweater and holding a plate of terrible spinach puffs. It’s Christmas Eve, and they’ve been snowed-in, stuck with Steve’s coworkers for nearly a week at their company retreat. Steve is flirting with an asshole across the room while Bucky watches one of Steve’s overly-familiar coworkers making his way over to him, probably to ask Bucky about his sex life for the fiftieth time since this week began. Why does everyone keep asking about Bucky’s sex life? Because everyone at this terrible party thinks that he and Steve are not only a couple, but the cutest couple at this whole shindig. And that apparently makes them feel entitled to all of the information about Bucky's private life that they can get.
They aren’t entitled, and he and Steve aren't a couple. But that doesn’t mean that Steve isn’t the love of Bucky’s life.
Bucky nibbles on the edge of the nasty spinach puff and nearly gags.
Worst. Christmas. Ever.

Together they form the Howling Commandos and fight the good fight before going down in a plane together and getting frozen for decades. When they wake up, canon is more or less restored, minus the part where Bucky was never kidnapped a second time and Steve shapeshifts back and forth from scaley to fleshy. (All very minor details.)
