Frank won't agree to rehab. But while taking what he thinks is his last stroll around the Pitt, he runs into Mel.

Mel’s energy is quiet and that unnerves him, reminding Frank of the way she’d turned inward earlier that day after the little girl who’d drowned. Someone should talk to her, he thinks. Someone who still has a job here. Someone who won’t be gone by tomorrow. Someone better.
But it also bothers him to imagine anyone else having that conversation with Mel. Frank would manage to finally find someone willing to learn from him and then completely ruin his life less than twenty-four hours later. It’s almost poetic, in an ironic sort of way. Maybe it’s the universe intervening on Mel’s behalf to keep him away from her. Frank could imagine a higher power taking one look at the two of them and shaking its head: you don’t get to fuck this one up. Alarmingly, the voice he imagines sounds a lot like Robby.

Summary
So in the sweet post-divorce spot, when Frank starts to feel a tug in his heart that tells him that his feelings for Mel are starting to take a turn, he is determined not to listen to them, because he doesn't want to fuck up that relationship, too.
If there is anything that can be said about Frank Langdon, it is that he is stubborn. Unfortunately, in his stubbornness, he misses five very vital clues that tell him that he is being a moron.
(Or: 5 times Frank missed the fact that Mel was really trying to give him a big old clue.)

“Whatever you prefer.” Armand's lips look chapped. Dehydration? He ate the kid with the sunglasses, but the smear he left took a lot of bleach to scrub away. Maybe Daniel should - “You won't be harmed,” Armand says, “regardless of your decision.”
“You got served divorce papers so hard it left a crater,” Daniel says, “and you're still poking around in people's heads.”
