Scotch and Rudie Mayfield are two twins born in District Eight. By the age of sixteen, both twins have grown into their own individuals and are trying to find their way in life, despite still spending most of their time together. Scotch is a gentle and soft-spoken girl with a love for painting who, unfortunately, tends to allow others to walk over her as she doesn't wish to upset them. She tries her best to help her family out by taking up as many shifts as the factories will allow her whenever she isn't attending her classes, resulting in her having little free time, if any. While Scotch attempts to keep their family afloat underneath the weight of their ill father and their liqour addicted mother, Rudie is more of a rebellious spirit, stealing from the markets and often getting in trouble with the Peacekeepers. Rudie is much louder-mouthed and more assertive than his twin sister, usually attempting to justify his behavior by comparing it to Scotch's cowardice. Despite his careless behavior, Rudie truly cares for his family and tries his best to keep Scotch and their parents safe and fed, even if his methods are a tad unorthodox. They continue this mundane life for quite a while until the 72nd annual Hunger Games.
