Maybe it’s an artifact from the days of the mages, subconsciously avoiding the beastly Bears. He doesn't blame them but the path is lonely.

    From the other few Witcher’s he’s met, they don’t mean to avoid Bears. And from their reactions, they haven’t or have rarely run into Bear Witchers. Maybe it’s just the kind of contracts Bears tend to take. That thought leads Julian out of his head and back to his current Hunt.
