Summary
Zuko had been wandering the world Spirit cursed for years. It wasn't enough for the Spirits to refuse to let him stay dead, they were determined to make sure he kept on dying. Waking up to an already bloodied sword above him should have been no different to every other time. He never expected to stay. He wasn't prepared to care again. Yet he did and he would hold onto it as short lived as it may be.
This is a rewrite of Perpetual by tealeyedbeing from Sho/Zuko's perspective because I'm unfairly obsessed.

It all started because of fidget spinners.
Zuko remembers the day clearly—he was walking down the halls with Sokka, his boyfriend, who was happily spinning his fidget spinner, as one with a fidget spinner does.
It just so happened that Zuko’s ex and current best friend, Jet, was walking in the opposite direction at the time, twirling his own fidget spinner.
Jet and Sokka had never really gotten along well; they were always tense, defensive, and quick to anger around each other. But, since they were in the same friend group and both cared deeply for Zuko, they sucked it up.
Until the fidget spinners.

Summary
~Even now, while most of the group is trading war stories, Jet is both unbothered by his surroundings and vigilant. He feels safe beside Zuko with Duke fighting sleep in his lap. Yet, still, he refuses to let his guard down. It confuses more than just Zuko, but nobody says anything about it.
Jet decided to turn in shortly after Duke finally fell asleep in his arms. He kissed Zuko good night before he left. “Is he okay?” Toph asks as soon as he’s far enough to not overhear the conversation.
“What do you mean?” Aang asks. He’s one of the few members of the group that hadn’t noticed something was off about Jet.
“He’s on edge,” Suki comments. “Maybe someone should go check on him.”~Though many of them don't know him very well, most of the Gaang is worried about Jet.

While searching for Appa in the crystal catacombs beneath Lake Laogai, Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Toph receive help from Jet, Smellerbee, and Longshot—only for Long Feng to activate Jet’s brainwashing, turning him against them. Forced to fight his own allies, Jet nearly kills Aang before Aang breaks through his conditioning by reminding him of who he truly is. When Long Feng retaliates, Jet takes the hit meant for Aang, leaving him fatally wounded. Desperate to save him, Aang taps into the Avatar State and heals Jet, keeping him from death. Recovered and more determined than ever, Jet stands beside Aang as they face Long Feng and the Dai Li. When Appa crashes into the battle, tossing Long Feng away, Aang is finally reunited with his beloved sky bison. As they leave Lake Laogai, Jet finds himself growing more protective—and increasingly smitten—with the young Avatar, much to Smellerbee and Longshot’s amusement.
