Tommy collapsed to his knees, breath hitching as pain exploded through his stomach. Every inhale felt like fire crawling up his throat.Clink.
Wilbur dropped the voice changer. The tiny device hitting the floor echoed louder than any scream.
“What’s wrong, Toms? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
Wilbur’s voice—his real voice—cut through the air. Too familiar. Too calm.“No. Fucking. Way…” Tommy’s voice cracked, each word strangled by agony. He tried to breathe, but the pain was a noose tightening around his ribs.
“Don’t worry,” Wilbur crouched down, eyes glinting with a twisted sort of affection. “You’re not going to die. Think of this as… an initiation. We all go through it. Isn’t that right, Techno?”
Another figure stepped into the light.
Tommy froze. His heartbeat went silent.
“Fucking Techno…” he rasped, disbelief dripping from every syllable.
Techno lifted his knife and gave a friendly little wave.
“Surprise, Tommy.”

A 16-year-old's biggest worry should be their grades. A normal 16-year-old should be focusing on school, friends, fanfiction, and their family. Tommy-Careful-Danger-Kraken-I̶n̶n̶e̶s̶-Simons is not a normal 16-year-old. After getting bitten by a funky spider named Shroud, Tommy's life is thrown upside down, and he's forced to keep the world spinning before he can enjoy a drink.

Returning to their parents' home for the first time in a decade, Techno is forced to face too many of the bad memories and broken relationships that he has been trying to ignore all this time. Things like all the reasons they left their parents' house to begin with. And how his twin brother, who he hasn't seen in years, still seems to hate him. The thought of it all is enough to leave him close to meltingdown, let alone actually getting on the plane to go there.
Luckily for him, the plane never gets home.
