Summary
Alan, for all his protestations that he only produced smut for pay, loved to come up with scenarios for the two of them to enjoy. Jack knew it was going to be a good night when, at some point during the day, hopefully when no one else was nearby, Alan sidled up to him and began speaking without preamble, saying something like, "You're the headmaster, and I'm the boy who didn't finish his schoolwork," or "You'll be the butler, and I'm the footman who got caught stealing the silverware." His ideas always ran along certain obvious themes, it was true - Jack was always the masterful authority figure, Alan the unfortunate subject of his cruel punishment - but his creative powers and enthusiasm were endless, and Jack never got tired of the games that they shared, not least because Alan was so very good at his roles.

Summary
On their final day on board The Lyric, Maud woke up next to Violet, which was still a new and exciting experience for her. It was early, the light drifting through the small porthole grey and feeble. Everything is going to change today, thought Maud drowsily, gazing at Violet's face, softened with sleep, her long blonde hair tied in a loose plait. Everything already had changed in the brief span of time she'd known Violet Debenham, though, and so Maud wasn't too afraid of it changing again. She supposed that was just a fact of life, that things were forever bound to keep changing just at the moment when you thought you understood them.

Summary
Julius Norreys and Francis Webster sat together at opposite ends of the chaise longue in one of the upstairs rooms at Quex's, not looking at each other. Their attention was instead focused on the rug in front of the fireplace, where Harry and Ash were grappling together in what might have looked to the casual observer like a demonstration of Greco-Roman wrestling. Two well-built, handsome young men, limbs entwined, and quite entirely nude, was a sight that would have set a sculptor's chisel ablaze. Yet here, the only audience was their respective partners, watching with a veneer of cool composure.

Summary
"If it's all right for us to do this," Firrin said slowly, "it would also be all right if you stayed, wouldn't it? Because... we're married, after all."
Paiza was torn, uncertain what she ought to do. She couldn't deny that she felt like she was intruding on their privacy, on whatever personal moment they were sharing. But she also recognized that she might feel unhappy if she allowed herself to be scared away - that it might lead to a tiny seed of resentment and jealousy that she didn't want to permit to take root. And a small part of her was, she realized much to her surprise, curious about what they were actually doing, which seemed like it was not quite sex, but also not not sex in some way that she found unexpectedly intriguing. "Yes," she heard herself saying, "I could stay, if neither of you objects to my presence."

Summary
"For God's sake, I know he was pretty, but is anything worth this much trouble?" I complained as the donkey stopped in the middle of the road, refusing to go any further.
"This beast is nearly as cantankerous as you are right now," Rupert replied, as he tried to urge it onward. The donkey, perhaps resenting the comparison, brayed and sat down. With a heavy sigh, Rupert came around to join me in the back of the cart and wait for the beast to decide it was ready to move again. "He was very pretty," he said, taking my hand, and I could sense the worry in his voice.
I grumbled my reluctant agreement. It was not, you must understand, that I truly felt like abandoning our mission to rescue Sandy Arbuthnot from whatever predicament he had tumbled into in his wanderings. But neither Rupert nor I were quite what we had once been in our prime, and the inevitable difficulties one encounters as soldiers of fortune were wearing heavily on me. "Let's hope he's still alive," I said, gazing up at the blinding blue sky with its scattering of wispy clouds.

Summary
The last thing he could remember was reaching up toward the sun, the dark shadow of his hand across its blinding light, almost close enough to grasp. To hold in his hands.
It had seemed in his reach in that moment—freedom, pure freedom after so long imprisoned—but he knew now it was impossibly far away. He knew now that he had always been destined to fall.

Summary
Calar Brescia is the crown prince of Aethrennar, a fey-elf (eladrin) monarchy whose power reaches beyond the Nerathi Confederacy into the Feywild. He is everything one might expect from an eladrin prince: cold, selfish, arrogant, and beautiful.
Sir Aldaan Evir is a half-elven (elomeni) veteran of Nerath’s campaigns against its southern neighbours in Moro. Granted knighthood for his role in a recent campaign, he is regarded as a hero of Nerath, though his feelings on this valorization are mixed.
When Calar is kidnapped by unknown forces, Sir Aldaan turns up to rescue him. But from the very start, everything goes wrong. The two men are trapped together on an adventure through the dangerous changing lands outside of Nerath’s city states, and beyond, that will test their growing bonds of trust, and of something more.
