Sometimes Leo thinks about them.
They had a wide grin, bad eyesight, and later on a gap-tooth from something Leo doesn’t want to think about. They always stuck by Leo, even before they could walk. Then the man came to take them away to somewhere safer, and they were training with.. him.
Unfortunately, the turtles learned to walk before they learned to talk. Leo anxiously pointed at the room where training took place, and the man gave him a confused look, continuing to drag him towards the door. Leo was helpless to do anything, only giving the training room door one last wistful look before following the others out.

Thing had been having a rough night, to say the least. He messed up once- once!- in training, and Draxum had nearly bit his head off (literally), Huginn and Muninn were being insufferable about it, as usual, his dinner had water chestnuts on it, a huge source of sensory issue for him and Draxum KNEW IT, so really it was no surprise that he found himself balled up in a corner sobbing to himself.
Or, he thought it was to himself.

Summary
A ninja is supposed to be cold, unfeeling, and able to get any job done without attachments. Splinter knew that, and that is how he tried to raise his sons. He didn't believe that they should have the emotions that he, himself, saw as a weakness.
Every time they did something out of his control, he would punish them. Even from a young age, the turtles knew better than to smile, laugh, or speak out of line.

Welcome to my AU
🐔 Turts of a Feather 🐔
My AU is loosely based on the 2018 show, w/ a lot of creative headcanon, OC world building, some things yoinked/adapted from other iterations of the series, canon redaction/alteration, & canon deviation.
I bounce back and forth on the timeline with some of the short stories, so be sure and check the notes to see the ages of the bois. For the main plot the series starts roughly six months after the defeat of Shredder & goes on from there.
Be warned I am an angst writer w/ PTSD who likes to put my peeps through the hell and back. So be sure and check the CWs in each summary in case there is something that you would find triggering.
