There was a creature lying there, hidden behind the bones. (An old ribcage, probably.) Cracks littered its flesh, and Joel would’ve thought it was dead if not for its slow, shallow, rattling breaths. Every time it exhaled, it would cough out a little puff of smoke. Its face was scrunched up, whether in misery, pain, or both, Joel couldn’t tell.
Pearl gasped. “It’s a dried ghast…”
“Aww, it’s so cute,” Joel commented softly. “Little bit ugly, though.” He stifled a laugh as Pearl glared at him.

Summary
Just before he could step off the bricks of the fortress, the rattle of bones sounded behind him. Figuring that it was just a regular skeleton, Grian prepared himself to duck and run, not wanting to deal with fighting mobs.
But when a slash of pain jolted against his shoulder, it caused him to whip around, stumbling to his hands and knees and scraping his skin. Grian stared up, wide-eyed at the expressionless wither skeleton that loomed above him, sword raised threateningly.

Grian gets hit by a wither skeleton on his way home from the nether, thankfully someone is there to help him with the effects.

It was a normal hands-on assignment. It was supposed to be, anyway, considering that Technoblade is currently pinned to the muddy ground by multiple pieces of what seems to be Netherrack fragments while bleeding out rapidly.
And judging from the broken kitchen shredder sound sourcing from his far left, Tubbo was condemned to the same fate, too.
So how did it go so wrong?

Would recommend for people interested in action based AU fics that are heavy on worldbuilding. Vibes are very YA dystopia with a confused protag fighting for their lives in an unknown environment with a nefarious puppet master. Fast paced with mystery elements that are well thought out and balanced between unknown twists and known elements of the manhunts and other manhunt AUs. Definitely a great contribution to the manhunt inspired fic verse on AO3
