Summary
Before the whole 'hero business' had uprooted his life, Warriors had been trained as a field medic, and the skills he'd learned remained useful nearly every day since. Some of the others in the group of heroes he now found himself traveling with had been trained in first aid better than others, and some of them (Wind) would pull on his sleeve and beg to be taught some of what he knew.
He'd planned on just teaching the kid a few things as he worked so Wind could watch him, but when Warriors finds himself injured and realizes the only helping hands around are the sailor's... Well, there's no time like the present

Somehow, they end up in the captain's neighborhood from his childhood where theft, poverty and criminals are far from uncommon, much to their misfortune.

The chain was, in a word, inconsolable.
Legend and Wind were the two hit the hardest. Legend cycled between raging, screaming, and sobbing uncontrollably, curled into a ball mumbling about someone named Marin. Wind, on the other hand, only cried, silent apart from a couple hiccups, deathly still in his bedroll.
It had been a week since it had happened. Since their life shifted upside down, since their beloved captain was gone. Killed.
Time still couldn’t believe it.
Spirits above, the captain was so young despite his years of experience. 27 years old. He was the second oldest, yet still, he looked so, so small when they buried him, his scarf cradled around him, engulfing him in a cruel mockery of a burial shroud.

Summary
The air hangs heavy, strained in its effort to pull Warriors' words together just as he is. He opens his mouth, closes it, opens it again. There are silent letters shaped by his tongue, beginnings of sentences that fail to make it past some barrier in his head.
For a moment, Legend thinks he'll actually work through his own walls and give him a solid answer, something he could work with.
And then Warriors retreats, and that's all burnt down.
"Nothin', bud," he claims, says it so casually, so flawlessly high-spirited, "I'm fine, really."
Legend clenches his fists until there are bleeding crescents in his palms.
