Summary
There isn't much that can surprise or shake John anymore. Being an ex-soldier and private investigator takes the shock out of just about anything horrifying in life. Murders are an everyday occurrence; drug and alcohol abuse are a footnote in his journals.
That being said, John couldn't be more terrified than at that moment. His breath hitches as he gathers Neal in his arms and hugs him close.
"You idiot, you almost got killed!" John exclaims into Neal's shoulder. His eyes begin to well up with tears, but he refuses to let them fall.
