Summary
There will be peace between the great horde commanded by the khatun and the empire of Dao—if all goes according to plan. The westerners have brought gifts and tribute, and even a princess; and it's just Taban's luck, that she should be assigned to serve that princess as a bodyguard until the terms are all agreed and she may be delivered safely to the khatun. Taban's given her oath, and it's inconceivable that she would break it—it doesn't matter whether she likes this princess or not. Westerners are soft and useless, everyone knows it, and the princess will marry the khatun and stop being Taban's problem.
(Except that isn't exactly what happens.)

“You know, we met once,” the king continues, voice closer, and Keith almost turns. They met many times on the field—but then the king clarifies with a single word. “Before.”
Before he was a king. Maybe before he was a general. Keith has traced his rise like the growth of a seed he planted in clay and never expected to see again for how poorly he sowed it. None of this would have been possible without Keith—not the war, not a line soldier's battlefield promotion, not the end of it all, tied up so neatly by all Keith’s best mistakes. Not the killing, either. The king is right about that much, at least.

I've seen a lot of conversations between Hakoda and Zuko, and this is one of my faves. It's less Bleeding Heart YOU DESERVED BETTER!! from Hakoda and more measured, even toned reality of the war and all that it comes with. And Zuko is more nuanced and TIRED and has feelings for his father still. Brilliant read.

Look, everything aloneintherain writs is basically perfection, but this is Izuku dealing with his new quirks, Aizawa dealing with his problem child being himself, everyone being supportive and brilliant, and a whole lot of feels all in one beautifully written, concise package. Izuku's tone-perfect, Shinso's moments are great, and Aizawa and Chiyo's scene is one of my favourites.
