He clicked on the video and the 1.32 minutes were the worst thing he had ever seen. It started with a recording of an accident, possibly from a dashcam perspective. A car crash on the I-40. His hands started shaking before his brain could properly process what he had seen.
But the white and yellow Fabulous Hudson Hornet lettering and the 51 were unique. Lightning would have recognized it amongst millions.

Lightning could feel his chest tightening. Why did this have to happen? I don’t want him to leave. Please don’t take him from me. Doc’s hand eventually fell from his head and back onto the covers. Lightning gripped the blanket as he tried not to cry again. Doc already saw him break down once, Lightning didn’t want him to see it again.
Having Doc worry about him was the last thing he wanted.
“I can tell somethins’ on your mind. What is it?”
Doc pulled him from his thoughts. Doc always told him he wore his heart on his sleeve, and this time was no different. Actually, it was probably worse.
Lightning sighed, “I guess,” he paused. How should he put this? “There’s so many things I never told you.”

The barrier snapped. Like waves, it came rushing out, full force, unable to take back. “Why would anyone ever want to be you, if they saw how you turned out?”

A glint of navy and a familiar outline parked next to the crew chief stand has his head spinning, and he unconsciously rises out of his chair to get a closer look. Feeling slightly dazed, he begins.
“Hey, did that look like-”
Before he can finish his sentence, the image cuts to an overview of McQueen’s pit crew, finally landing on a close up of his new crew chief. Gray haired and stern faced, barking instructions into the head piece. The announcer cuts him off.
“Darrell, it appears McQueen has got himself a pit crew, and look who he has for a crew chief.”
It can’t be, Smokey thinks, eyes glued to the scream. Louise has his arm in a vice grip. He can feel the crescents of her nails digging into his skin.
“Wow, this is history in the making! Nobody has seen the racing legend in over fifty years!”
For a moment the entire bar goes dead quiet, and Smokey's mind goes blank.
