During previous incidents, Dr. Gurathin had messaged me over the feed with his objections, asking that I retrieve the identified drone and not use it to re-infiltrate his personal living space. Luckily, Mensah had bought me two cases of drones, so I was able to use a different one for each new infiltration, adhering to his request.
This time, he had unexpectedly dropped a container of hot liquid over the drone. It was still functional (a drone that couldn’t handle water would be useless for planetside deployments) but the audio was muted and its visual inputs were restricted to the interior of a First Landing University mug. I could probably push the mug off the furniture surface using the drone’s propulsion system, but I was getting a 99.2% risk assessment that this action would cause mug to break. That had an 84.6% chance of turning this incident from a minor annoyance into a Big Fucking Deal involving meetings and consensus and talking about this, ugh.

Five years after the disappearance of Hotel OJ, Lightbulb returns to where it once stood when she and her unfortunate tag-along Poppy suddenly get sucked into a digital version of the island where they find the missing hotel and all it's residents along with MePhone and his new assistants Toilet and MePad. Now, they have to deal with their new lives being trapped in a world they can't leave or face a fate worse than death like many of the other residents.
(Basically, an AU where all the contestants (former and future, excluding Inanimate Insanity Infinity) are trapped in a virtual version of Inanimate Isle. Also, Poppy is Cobs' kid in my fics until further notice, Bow didn't die at the end of season one in this fic, the contestants aren't actually created by MePhone4, and Cobs is only a dick to his creations and not actually a straight-up villain.)

Un lettore attento potrà cogliere riferimenti alla cultura pop, come il film Blade Runner e serie animate giapponesi quali Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain e Akira. L'incipit dell'opera, "...è successo una mattina, mi sono svegliato e… nessuno mi percepiva, ero diventato invisibile", richiama suggestioni kafkiane. Il finale, che non verrà qui svelato per non rovinare l'esperienza al lettore, presenta richiami a opere cult come Gli androidi sognano pecore elettriche? di Dick e il celebre racconto di Ellison Non ho bocca e devo urlare.
L'analisi del romanzo rivela la natura nichilistica dell'autore, che riprende il pensiero di Sartre e, per certi versi, coglie l'assurdità della vita rifacendosi a Camus. Lo scopo del romanzo è far riflettere sul labile confine tra uomo e macchina, sull'uso dell'intelligenza artificiale e sulle conseguenze delle tecnologie.
