    This thing started 4 years ago as a crack fic to amuse myself because honestly, dwarves are just ridiculous. As I returned to it after a long pause and it took an entirely different spin, a summary rewrite is a necessity.

    Bilbo Baggins had been touched by black magic. Her idle life in the Shire without any need to use her dark powers was turned upside down when Gandalf appeared at her doorstep to drag her yet again into trouble. But who wouldn't want to see a dragon? And the crownless king of dwarves wasn't so bad himself too. In hindsight, she should have just told the wizard to sod off.

    Thorin was quite ready to despise the newly acquired Company burglar, he was. Instead, he fell head over heels for her. Courting on the way to Erebor proves to be rather tricky when you're a directionally challenged jealous idiot and pretty much everyone ends up smitten with your One while literally nothing goes as planned.

    Throw in some dragon sickness angst, One Ring troubles, unexpected friendships and a lot of elves. Chaos ensues.

    Celebrimbor is not healed, may never be truly healed, from what Sauron did to him. But he returned from the Halls of Mandos, returned to Middle-earth, anyway: it is the only way that he can attempt to make amends for the devastating mistake of trusting Annatar and the ruin that his misplaced trust unleashed upon the world.

    With the great smith who helped forge the Rings of Power on their side, the Council of Elrond has an option they did not have before. Now Celebrimbor and Frodo Baggins must journey together into darkness, along with a handful of trusty companions, in hopes of unmaking the One Ring before all of Middle-earth is swamped in a war that only Sauron can win.

    But wounds of the spirit linger even more than do wounds of the flesh, and Celebrimbor's path through the shadows that Sauron wrought upon the world will be hard. And all the Fellowship will have to face great peril before they will have even the faintest chance of realising this desperate, foolish hope.

      ‘Remind me not to let any of you near Varr’s youngest,’ Thorin mumbled under his breath, then cursed when a number of the Company perked up, Fíli and Kíli among them.

      ‘No!’ Thorin said with absolute firmness. ‘Do not even think about it. I will not begin my rule of Erebor by waging a war against Men attempting to recover their stolen children. Dís would have my head on a pike.’

      ‘Eh, we could talk her round,’ Bofur said blithely, eyeing Thorin’s sister-sons as if weighing their usefulness as potential allies.

      ‘You could not talk me round,’ Balin said and Bofur deflated. Thorin gave Balin a grateful look. That was one dispute he wanted no part in.

      Thranduil had been chuckling with quiet glee throughout this conversation and Thorin shot him a baleful look.

      ‘Do not think you can get away without any trouble from the new arrivals,’ he warned the Elven King. ‘The Master is quite as bad as Tauriel painted him and some of his wealthier citizens are no better. Mistress Draper may even be worse, and she is quite enamoured of the idea of having elven royalty among her connections.’

      ‘She cannot be that bad, surely,’ Thranduil said hopefully, sounding unconvinced by his own claim.

      ‘Legolas said she reminded him a great deal of one of Lady Galadriel’s hand-maidens,’ Thorin informed him. Thranduil closed his eyes and murmured what seemed to be a prayer to Eru for strength.

      ‘Those jewels had best be as wondrous as I remember, Thorin Oakenshield,’ Thranduil announced with mock severity. Now it was Thorin’s turn to laugh.

      ‘Oh, I am sure they will be,’ he responded, ‘and if they are not you can comfort yourself by thinking of the charitable nature of your offer to house these people.’

      ‘Wondrous, Thorin,’ was Thranduil’s response. ‘Entirely wondrous.’ Thorin simply smiled in response.

While some managed to return to a normal life without fear or lingering wounds and scars; both physical and otherwise; Harry, Hermione, and Ron were not one of them. Harry, plagued by constant nightmares and an ever-growing depression, channel his misery into researching the Veil underneath the Ministry as a way to cope and ease his guilt for causing Sirius death. It is there, through the help of Hermione, that they discover a great conspiracy.

    The Veil isn't a Gateway to the Land of the Dead... but to somewhere else entirely, and Sirius might not be as dead as they first believed.
