Then the realization hit. The Blue Spirit himself was hunched over him. The man was practically a legend, never caught in the act, always one step ahead of his pursuers. He stared at him for a few moments, uncertain, weighting his options. Screw it. Anything was better than staying here, waiting to be send to the front line where he'd probably be(who was he kidding, would be) cut down by his own people.
Happenings between se2ep7 Zuko Alone and se2ep8 The Chase - canon compliant. Some village boy Lee and Sensu content because there's not enough of that. Also post-war Zuko-Lee reunion cause my soul needs it. Turtleducks may or may not make an appearance.
OR Zuko is badass and a self-sacrificing idiot, Sensu can't catch a break and chokes on his drink, and Lee wants to say he's sorry.

Summary
While recovering from his injury on his ship, Zuko overhears Iroh telling Jee about Zuko's banishment and telling him that Ozai had no intention taking him back. Not long after, Zuko abandons his ship in the night, disappearing into the Earth Kingdom. After making his way through the Earth Kingdom for a few weeks, meeting people and acclimating to his new life while trying to make his way to a Fire Nation outpost, he meets the Freedom Fighters before he can sign his life over to the Fire Nation military again under false pretenses.

Summary

Zuko thought about about how, for the first time in a long time, he truly had no one left, and nowhere to go.
So, instead of moving on, he looked down at the young boy’s shining eyes, so much like the Avatar’s own when he asked that one question all those months ago, and said, “Yes.”

Summary
Zuko is honestly doing fine on his own. Sure, he's getting thinner. And maybe he's a bit battered from dodging the high bounty the Blue Spirit has been awarded with, (some say) courtesy of the Fire Lord. But he's figuring a lot of this stuff out for the first time and he's nothing if not persistent. He will continue to try until something gives, regardless of if it's him or his obstacles.
Except this Jet guy is kind of making it hard. Zuko keeps thinking he understands him and then he does something weird again and Zuko's thrown for a loop. He keeps wanting to let his guard down, but every day he becomes more sure that the thing Jet hates more than anything is who he truly is.

He's a fighter, clearly. Good, but exhausted. Every time they see him he seems a bit worse for wear, getting thinner and shaggier. The guy's losing muscle mass and his face grows gaunt beneath his scar. If Jet can't convince him to stay with him and Longshot and Smellerbee, he's gonna have to stop them from committing a good old fashioned kidnapping.
The hardest part will be convincing himself not to join them.
